Mustang as daily driver
 

Hi folks,
Just test drove a 2012 Mustang V6 and wow, I loved everything about it. My only concern is that it will be my dd, and I'm wondering how it would be in winter driving conditions?
Anyone here driving their Mustangs in winter? I'll be putting four winter tires on it for sure.

On other note, I want to get a 2012 or 2011 V6 premium with club of America pkg. and interior upgrade pkg. The dealer here in Richmond Hill ON. was very inflexible on the price and told me ``mustangs are in short supply`` He also pretty much lowballed my trade-in :banghead: So what do you guys think a fair price should be? The price I was quoted is $ 27889 + 13% HST =$ 31514

As for the dealer your dealing with, I'd find a new one. Mustangs are not at all in short supply. Mustang sales have fallen this month, and unfortunately have been lower than that of the Camaro overall.

Drive by any dealership in the GTA and Mustangs are parked on the lots in abundance. The dealership in Barrie alone has over 10 Shelby GT500's on the lot waiting for new homes.

Maybe Mustangs are in short supply in Richmond Hill. I'd do some more window shopping at different dealerships before I pulled out my cheque book.

I don't think many guys here drive there Stangs in the rain let alone drive them in the winter. But if you chose to the winter tires will surely help, as well as the traction control. Lots of people do it so its not like it won't work at all. Just from my experience, rear-wheel drive + snow/ice= bad combo.

Mustang + Winter Driving = Insurance claim! I had an older Mustang and put studded tires on the rear for traction, and it did have traction control, but it was absolute crap, and not fun to drive at all. I guess depending on how bad the roads get, will determine how much trouble you'll find yourself in. But seriously man, just get a Chevy/Dodge winter beater to rust out if you have to, and preserve the life of the Stang.:tup

Thanks for the welcome and replies guys. I know the dealer was using sales pressure techniques. I've bought few cars over the years and I've seen all types. Currently there are over 600+ mustangs listed on Autotrader.ca and almost half of them are '11s and '12s.

As for winter driving, I used to drive a Fire bird (no traction control or ABS)some 25 years ago in Montreal with only two studded tires on the back, I didn't get into any accidents but I don't remember if it was all white knuckle driving or not, I was in my twenties, maybe the youth stupidity factor or bravado!

As for winter beaters go, I live in a condo and we own two spots for our cars and I'm renting another smaller parking spot for my bike. That's why the stang will be my dd.
I have not given up hopes. I'll find a way to make it work as I think the stang is too much fun to drive and own and will worth the effort.

I've driven my '06 in five winters and with four Michelin X-Ice snows no problem, I grew up on rear wheel drive and all the young guys that say it can't be done just don't know how. Keep your foot out of it and go.

Welcome aboard, and definitely shop around, and get different quotes as this could be your weapon to getting the best deal possible.:tup

Four good winter tires, you'll be fine. Don't try it with only two, you also need to turn and stop, not just get moving!
