Hey welcome to the CMOC.ca crew! We are glad to have new members.
What is wrong with the 88 5.0L???
You want cheap HP the cheapest gain you will get is
- Under drive pulleys adds about 8-15 HP you really feel the difference. You can buy these from www.steeda.ca great sponsors by the way thumb:, also to add DO NOT BY THE UNDER DRIVE PULLEYS MADE BY MAC THEY ARE JUNK!! "(Long story!!!)".
Other then that the price starts to go up.....probly you next cheap modification would be maybe Nitrous its any were from $800.00 - $1500.00 depends on what your looking at........aparently 150 shot is safe, maybe you might what to look into that. rockon:

WELCOME TO THE SITE..........as for keith hes partly there.... go under drive pullies , and on a fox go exhaust. i put flowmaster 40series , 2 chamber , with an xpipe and it was the biggest change that i noticed on my 87 lx notch. kn filter. remove the silencer in the air box [ inside the fenderwell where the filter rests against.] i put an msd igniton , ford racing wires, and it was like night and day with my little lx..........man i miss that little car. but now i got my black beast. ask away and there are alota guys that are very knowlodgeable here.

Tear you a new 1.....he is even closer then I am goodpost:, but the exhaust......DONT GO X PIPE! it sounds gay and annoying! go H pipe!!

X-Pipe = The same tone and never changes just loud and quite, sounds alright but gets annoying very fast.

H-Pipe = Rumbley, Poppy, and snappy, very aggressive sound and never gets boring...also sounds amazing when your down shifting!

I'm not turning this into a argument BUT everyone has different taste....I hope you go with the right choice!

Also don't for get about the CAI "Cold Air Intake" just don't get a K&N air filter, apparently the Mass air flow sensors don't like the oil on the K&N air filter! Of course thats if you have a MAF sensor.

Just my $0.02

Keith.

Crap I for got GEARS go either 3.73:1 or 4.10:1
