Hello All;
I have been a Mustang owner since 1979. My first Mustang was a 1979 Cobra. I bought it because it was supposed to be the 'last' 5.0 V8 Mustang ever due to increasing fuel and emissions standards. The Cobra was a 4-speed V8 with the big (for the day) Michelin TRX tire system (special 390mm diameter rim system with a special tire wall construction). It was a horrible driving car. Does anyone remember the early days of emissions standards? No power (only 140 rated HP) and poor drivability. It had a rough-shifting 4 speed transmission with an overdrive 4th (not a Tremec, B-W or top-loader). There was a huge gap in the ratios from 3rd to 4th. I took it to my local transmission shop with a 4th gear syncro problem. They fixed it but told me they did not want to ever see that transmission again. I think the 'good old days' for cars ended in 1975 and did not re-appear until the mid 1980's. Just an opinion.
The Cobra remained the 'last 5.0 V8' only until 1982. In 1986, I sold the Cobra and bought an 1984 SVO which I have had ever since. What a difference from the 1979. It went faster, cornered better, stopped better and got better gas mileage. What was there not to love?
I have recently joined CMOC and have posted my SVO for sale. I am afraid I have horrible messed up that ad. It was there for awhile but now I do not see it so I reposted another ad, forgot to add the price but I do not see it either. Lots to learn.
