Newbie. Rare 1988 Beige

Hello everyone.

Newbie to the site. I have been playing with cars on and off since the 1980's, from domestics to old school imports. Recently purchased a 1988 Mustang LX coupe. 5.0 5spd. figured the car was a rare colour when I bought it. if anyone has anymore info on these colour cars it would be appreciated.

Purchased the car out of Edmonton. previous owner had it for about 7 yrs. he purchased it out of Red Deer. Sadly he painted it with yellow primer when he bought it. (innocent mistake) I guess with the stock colour it wasn't really a chick magnet, lol.

I did the usual when I got it home. ran the numbers and it all checks out. 1988 LX coupe, 5.0 5spd. then I ran the paint code (8L). I was shocked, 1 of 23!! the car is a great survivor. only mods are a stormin norman ram air hood, trunk spoiler, march ram air and a pair of flowmasters. no rust underneath or in the trunk. only slight bubbling on the bottom of the doors. The interior is close to mint and I believe it is rare also, beige and black. only options are tilt and cruise (not working).

I have tried to find info about the beige cars but it seems limited. from what I have found they were all special order and beige was a designated 4cyl colour. one odd thing with the car is it has the 4cyl belt diagram decal on the rad support. factory screw up?? the car shows no signs the front clip has ever been replaced and like I have said all the numbers check out. the goal is to get it painted back to original with all the correct decals.

the pic was taken the day I purchased it. the 18" wheels have now been replaced with a set of Weld Draglites. Also got the Factory turbines with the car. Might sell the 18's if anyone is interested.

Also have a 1994 Lincoln Mark viii. the first all aluminum 4.6 4v.

Mike

Welcome ... you are correct, the beige colour did seem to be on a lot of 2.3 cars. If your VIN has an 'E' as the 8th digit, it is a factory 5.0, which I'm guessing you have checked.

cheers
Ed

thanx def67

fast ed. yep it is an E. Vin on dash matches the door. has the 8L paint code on the door tag. once I found out there were only 23 made I checked the numbers many times. lol.

Nothing removes panties quicker than a 5.0, painted in yellow primer. Should have stuck with the beige. Did he paint it with a roller ? :D
