Old owner, new to this site

Hello all,

I'm getting a little long in the tooth, having just hit the big 5.0, and I thought I'd join this forum because my Mustang is starting to show her age too. I'm hoping to make a few upgrades to her in the near future, and will be looking for your ideas on what to do if I am not sure what direction to take.

Here is what I have: '05 Legend Lime 4.0, automatic, factory handling package, 16" rims with 'spinner' center caps

Here is what I want: Cold air intake, dual exhaust, 18" rims (not sure what style), wider rubber, new upper & lower grills, new hood, GT rear bumper cap, HID headlights

I'll keep you all posted as I make changes, & bombard you with questions when I'm having difficulties.

Cheers, stev0h

Welcome to CMOC

I know Ford Racing has a good selection of wheels such as the 2010 18" GT500 wheels that can be had for a decent price. I believe Street Scene has a few different grilles that look ok too. Oh and welcome to the site.

I essentially have the same 2005 Mustang (Windveil Blue). I pre-order it with the IUP and leather steering wheel upgrades. I have a Mac CAI Kit, Brenspeed Tune and an dual Magnaflow exhaust, overlay upper and lower grille, GT ducktail spoiler and projector headlights. If you need any information or advice let me know.https://accounts.google.com/ServiceL...p&passive=true

First of all, thanks to all for the salutations and ideas! As for your suggestion RedFire, I have definitely thought about adding a supercharger, but I'm afraid of the trouble my better half would get into when she sneaks in the occasional solo cruise. Let's just say her right foot has restraint issues! Also, if I'm not mistaken, I think a new rear end would be in order to handle all that extra power, and probably a new drive shaft, because I believe the v6's are limited to around 180 kmh to keep the d shaft from blowing apart.

I am still toying with this idea though . . .

Just beef up everything then you are covered

stev0h 05-01-2012 04:02 PM

If I'm going to beef up everything, I'm tempted to pick up a new or slightly used '12 3.7 - great deals on these right now in my neck of the woods. Colour is an issue though; I really love my Limer. Decisions, decisions . . .

Vapor Shelby 05-01-2012 07:25 PM

I hear ya! The 2012 3.7 is putting out some incredible power, a smart buy for sure!
Love the legend lime colour Ronnieo6gt has a nice legend lime with some tasteful mods also...Check out his gallery Here

Thanks for that link RedFire, Ronnie06gt's ride is very nice. I hope to have mine looking that nice again one day, but after almost 160,000 km & six winters as a daily driver, I've got my work cut out for me. Can I assume that the Mustang Pictures link at the top of the cmoc page will allow me to check out everyone's ride?

stev0h 05-01-2012 10:27 PM

Never mind my last post re: the Mustang Pictures link, I've answered my own question.

P.S. I took a look at your gallery as well. Love the 500, wish I could afford one, and also kinda wish Ford had left that front end exclusively for the folks who forked over the coin for a Shelby. Bet the bean counters had something to do with that.

Cheers, stev0h

SNAKEBITE 05-02-2012 12:09 AM

if your 4.0 is paid for I would keep it

stev0h 05-02-2012 07:46 AM

That's one of the decisions I'm struggling with snakebite - no current payments is one of the nice features of this car. Even if I trade her in & use the 5-10 grand I'm contemplating putting into her as a down payment instead, I'm still looking at a hefty payment for 4-5 years.

VAEM 05-02-2012 07:15 PM

Keep what you've got and get a supercharger. Don't worry about the drive shaft - when are you going to surpass 180 km/h anyways?

Red Pony 05-02-2012 07:49 PM

Welcome! Sounds like you've got a great project to look forward to.

SNAKEBITE 05-02-2012 09:23 PM

To the op I know what you mean when you state it sucks going from no payment to a payment for 4-5 years. I had our 05 gt paid off exactly 5 months to the day we bought it offf the showroom floor. I kept it for 4 years and 7800 k's and traded for the 09 gt500 and a 400ish dollar a month payment. We paid that one off in 25 months and you guessed it I just got rid of it with 3900 k's. The only bonus with this transaction is I walked out with a brand new car and zero for a payment. For the first time (in the future) when I do get another Mustang it will be a super low mileage but used car.
