So, Who Else Can Share This Honor?

Hi all! My name is Matt, I'm turning 20 shortly and my '05 GT, which I've owned for close to a year now, is my first car! Sure I've driven my mom's Pontiac before, or my grandparents Volkswagen, etc. But my '05 is the first car I've ever personally owned. I'm kinda curious, how many other members here have the same story? I mean I have to say it is fantastic.. I still can't quite seem to believe in some years I'll have to settle down and buy some 4-door mellow family-friendly car (God forbid, an SUV!!) all for the sake of practicality! I can certainly tell you I will never let her go, though. She is my first love! How many of you guys still have yours from way back?

It's great to be here everyone! :)

Welcome to the site dude - just because you get older doesn't mean you gotta grow up and buy "some 4-door mellow family-friendly car" or an SUV. Hell I just got my first Mustang a couple years back and I'm well over 30. Age means nothing.

SNAKEBITE 11-17-2010 07:13 PM

Welcome and enjoy your Mustang. I sold my first new Mustang (90gt) way back in Dec 93

A bitch I'm gonna guess!!! Talk about the worst catagory to be in - male, early 20's, mustang GT. One step above alcoholic repeat offender hit and run drunken street racer as far as the insurance company is concerned! :lol I hated paying those premiums.

superhornet59 11-18-2010 07:22 AM

Haha, believe it or not they're quite reasonable! My parents have multiple vehicles for business, so they added mine under my mom's name as an occasional driver, so I'm paying just $225! Contrast that to ~$500 if I was on my own.

As for getting a second car one day, it's inevitable, I need to buy a winter car at some point.. for now I take the bus during those months, as I can barely keep the rear two planted in the rain, let alone snow! and I would NEVER do that to her... in fact the guy I bought it off of runs a dealership, and I bargained out free rustproofing every year for life! YES! :D

It's been 5 years, but she looks like she just rolled off the assembly line!

EDIT: Photoas requested :)

Nice move with the rustproofin.:tup

You bet! And now that I'm here, do you guys ever do mustang 'meet-ups'? I used to work at a Krispy Kreme donuts, and every weekend tons of kids with their Japanese cars would meet up at the parking lot and just look at eachothers' cars and talk amongst fellow enthusiasts.. anything like that go on in Mississauga? It looks pretty cool.

Nice looking car bud!! I sold my first mustang to the insurance company when a truck made me an offer to adjust the front clip. Still miss that car.

SNAKEBITE 11-18-2010 04:42 PM

It's nice to be old as I pay just under 500/year full coverage for mine. Keep your record clean and watch your rates fall.

Out here on new cars (Mustangs Camaro's Vets etc) you can buy what is called hobbyist insurance. The only stipulation is less than 5000 k's a year and no driving it to work. Otherwise all is good:tup

That's cool, is there a no racing clause?

SNAKEBITE 11-18-2010 08:53 PM

^^^I have never heard of a mainstream ins co offer that, many guys in our hobby would love it though. Oh I forgot you need to get an appraisal (good for 5 years) and my came back at 59,900.00. If the car gets stolen I will not cry, I would just buy a new one.

CRASH 11-18-2010 08:59 PM

I'm gonna start a insurance thread in the DEN before blown 349 reams me for hijackin again :p lol

superhornet59 11-18-2010 10:00 PM

Haha, do you guys really race yours? If I wanted to hit the track, I would buy some old beater BMW or something.. I treat my car like it's a child of mine.. I do the odd 'for kicks' pull and the 'it's raining, why don't I show my friend what over-steer means' kind of thing, but otherwise you would be very surprised to see how gentle I am with it for a someone in my age group. Taking it racing? err.. maybe a foxbody or fourth gen...

Ur right, the Fox is a better racing platform.

ChadStang 11-18-2010 11:18 PM

I'm 30 and on Mustang #10. My first one was a new 2000 GT and I'd like to have it back but I'd much rather have my current car. Back in 01 I was paying $4800 per year insurance with a clean record. After that I rasied my deductable on the collision up to $2500 and my insurance went way down.

SNAKEBITE 11-19-2010 04:15 PM

4800=OUCH OUCH or bend over here it comes

No rain since new (2years) but otherwise I drive it like a 90 year old grampa:chacha:

BIZ 11-19-2010 05:25 PM

I'm 35 and my Cobra is Mustang number 8 for me. All brand new.
I was lucky enough to buy my first Mustang at 16. I paid $400 a month for insurance for the 1st 6 months. I think it was a test to see if I could handle a 5.0

Congrats on the car!!!

StealthStang 11-19-2010 06:37 PM

nice car bro, I am sure the factor works well with the stang lol.

superhornet59 11-19-2010 08:50 PM

Actually NO >:[ The bucket seats in the rear.. I mean.. what kind of idiot thought of those? That stupid 'hump' in the middle ruins everything, I've had it compared to having sex on a camel. So, I have to take women home like any other mere V8-less mortal. I will convert them to bench seats one day, mark my word.

And wow, some of you guys have had a LOT of mustangs.. well.. cars in general for that matter. I had a slightly different plan... as things on my car wear away (clutch, synchro's, engine internals, springs/dampeners, etc) I'm gonna replace them with performance parts.. that way it will literally just keep getting better over the years, till I have a 9 second, corner shredding, beast on my hands.
