Winter Driving with Automatic V6

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I have a 2013 V6 Automatic coupe and trying to decide whether to buy a beater or drive the car this winter and put winter tires on it. Kingston Ontario is not a real bad snow area but I am concerned about 401 driving. I don't drive a lot and can be selective. I had an 88 5.0 L and it was a joke with the stock tires but this car is total different.

I wondered if anyone has experience with the traction control on snow? Is it any good or does it fish tail all over the place.

Also, if you experience with a particular brand of winter tire, that would be appreciated.

ps...I am 54 and drive the car pretty easy...just want to be safe. had an 07 328XI which stuck like glue in the winter.

my 2013 gt with snows (Michelin x-ice 3's) was excellent in the few dicey winter driving days we had last winter. Mine is an manual but with the traction control on I felt very confident in the car.

Thanks for the feedback. The traction control must be quite impressive. I'll look at those tires too!

Mush appreciated!

I had the 2013 v6 auto before i traded for the GT. As long as you have good winter tires ( i had goodyears with studs) and some common sense you will be just fine. Don't drive it like it is summer time and if need be add some weight in the trunk. My kids deliverd flyers so I threw some left over bundles in the back sometimes for the extra grip. But over 1/2 the winter didn't add any weight to the back end. This winter I may or may not drive the GT. I had to sell my 17" winters that I have for the v6 and not sure if I will get them this year. The wife and I might try to car pool all winter instead of paying for winter skins. IMO, you will be just fine as long as you don't go down none plowed roads after a heavy dump.

I would get the x-ice 3 as well. If I decide to get winters that's what I will be going for

If you're 54 and live in Ontario , you should have plenty of experience with rear wheel drive and winter road conditions. Get a set of four, not two, dedicated winter tires, maybe throw three or four forty pound bags of kitty litter in the trunk. Traction control is one advantage the old cars never had, so between that and experience behind the wheel, you should be good to go. I can never figure out why people buy a car as a daily driver and then are so hesitant to drive these things in the winter.

LMAO dude. I'd pay the money for winter tires and wheels to AVOID car pooling. Let me know how that works out. :)

You're reply is not helpful...and rude to the prior person who responded to my inquiry.

you don't need the sand bags, I had plenty of traction, even up hill. just get good snows, you'll be fine.

That's pretty touchy for a new guy, if you don't like other people's replies don't ask. I thought he was trying to help.:banghead:

dmmustang, Apocalypse Pony's reply was very helpful, read it again and I don't believe he was rude at all. He was just trying to be funny. Maybe you should look up what "LMAO" means and stop being so rude yourself. You should get to know the members of this forum before being so judgemental.

Just my 2 cents.
