first time with the cobra.

well lots of wheel hop :banghead: these runs were all at idle, need to work
on my r/t and my 60ft. best was 2.40 :cry2: missed a few gears
best mph 111.14. anyways had a good time  need to fix the the
wheelhop

5 runs,4 were 13.XX

Ponyryd 04-09-2006 07:53 PM

Practice makes perfect dude, on those Cobras you gotta slip the clutch just right, don't worry about r/t for now, it has no effect on e/t anyway, just practice. :chacha:
Btw, I can't read your timeslips.

termn8r 04-09-2006 08:00 PM

click on the time slip twice ? sorry about that
well best time was 13.43 at 111.14mph, 60ft was 2.44 :bleh:

Ponyryd 04-09-2006 08:04 PM

Still can't see it, judging by your mph, you should easily be running high 12s, you really need to practice your driving/shifting, what are you shifting at? Your 60ft. isn't that bad for an irs Cobra on street tires, your problem is most likely shift points. Biz will probably have some pointers for you.

termn8r 04-09-2006 08:09 PM

problem is wheelhop. first gear forgetaboutit,to much wheelhop,so i would
shift at 3500 or 4000rpm then 3rd,4th at 6700 rpm ?

White_Snake 04-09-2006 08:09 PM

good stuff,
what were you racing against? a tricycle, 18.99 :laughhard

We offer a complete bushing upgrade to solve the wheel hop. In addition, a set of QA1 IRS Adj. Drag shocks really help.

With the full bushing kit, and the shocks say goodbye to wheel hop.

Click Here for a writeup on a complete bushing install

That's what I'm saying, you need to slip the clutch to ease into the power and avoid the wheel hop, you'll probably only get a few good runs before the clutch gets too hot, and the gears start grind, then you need some cool down time. I'd go talk to Steeda, or get a solid rear.

Thats great info...but

you really only need some Drag radials...that will eliminate most of your wheel hop, I have zero wheel hop with M/T drag radials and I changed the IRS diff bushings...that and lots of practice....
you need to launch off idle with these cars...any amount of RPM and your toast...
not bad for you first time..keep it at and it will get better. :tup

its a vert...I sure do, they come stock on all verts...I dont think they are the greatest..but seem to work...and I get no ride noise from changin the diff bushings.
I had crazy wheel hop before, so bad I had to replace the half shafts
2X now...so I know what your talking about...but the d/r's made the biggest diff.

Were you racing a black Cobra on Sunday at Cayuga?

Cool, we were there on the weekend.. I hope you got to see the jet car make a pass!!! It was nuts.

Actually we were all wondering what the hell you were doing, lol.. first time out, that makes sense. I bet if you didn't launch off idle you would be pulling alot better times, but we figured you wanted to baby your car :)

you cant launch a stock 03/04 Cobra off anything but idle....the wheel hop will knock your fillings out...
even with bushings done and drag radials I still launch of idle and can cut a 1.70 60ft
If I launch off any RPM now my new problem isnt the wheel hop..the clutch cant handle it and slips. :banghead:

5PointOHNO 04-11-2006 06:53 PM

Man... that's rough

P.Meister 04-12-2006 03:54 PM

no extra noise from diff bushings...maybe if you went with solid bushings
