Racing season has almost started, I am talking about the drag strip only and not the street or any highway racing.

During your runs last year when did you find it best to run, or when were your times the best. I know that some added mods and such but what is the best time of the year and temperature to get the big times from our cars.

Why I am asking is that I have heard that spring and fall are the best as the temp is down and the air is good. All things being said/equal I ran the best I had run on July 2nd last year. It was 24 degrees that day and super sunny, but not humid. I ran slower in spring and fall.

I am also n/a compared to some of you with blowers and nitrous but I do know that either way we need good air and not a lot of humidity.

I appreciate the responses and looking for feedback. Thanks

I keep all my slips so I took a quick look for you.
I was stuck at low 12's all season...from 12.2 to 12.0 consistantly

Then the last 2 times to Sparta

Last Sat in Sept 2005
Car ran
12.06
12.19
12.08
12.01

I only made 4 passes because I over heated the clutch..I had to shut down on the 5th pass as it would not go into 3rd.

Sat Oct 8th(GTAMC group) I believe you were there that day

12.19
12.03
11.99
11.92 New Best time
11.94

again clutch issue and new clunk from the rear end..possibly the half shafts.

I only got my D/R's end of May into June so that's not a great comparison....

So based on my slips I would say spring and fall is your best bet...I think fall may be a bit better as theres rubber that has been layed down over the whole season.

From what I hear Sparta wasnt hooking at all last wknd.

Regardless of when you go, the difference will not be any more than 2-3 tenths, which really doesn't matter if you're going for the fun of it.

Btw nice thread title.

and my slips throughout the year back that up 100%

I gained about 1-2 tenths in the fall..now for a guy like me who was stuck at 12.0's that was huge :D
as most know 11's was the goal...
this year I have set the bar higher..
11.60's on the stock blower
with only a handfull of new mods...

I'd post my spring warranty repair bill but it's probably better I don't. :chacha:

Yeah Sparta sucked last weekend. I couldn't hook on drag radials. 14.06 best with me driving, 13.87 with a friend driving.

generally fall is the best quality air as little humidity and the track prep is still primo....spring track prep is little as hardly any rubber is sunk into track...

just my .02

Spring and fall! I gained 3mph in the fall. I usually go out in the spring, get a few times. Then a few times in the fall. Its frustrating when you go in the dead heat of summer and your cars runs 3 tenths slower! LOL. It especially hurts when you are running XX.10's or XX.20's! For example, I have a hard time running 12's when its real hot out, when its cool I run 12.70's. Im going to try to get out soon and see if I can get the 12.50's...

That is close to the gains and losses that I see. It is dramatic and that is why I made this post but it seems that there is somethign else palying with me as most have written that the times are not that drastic and should only vary about a couple of tenths. Mine swing from 13.5 to 12.9 guess it is that driver thing with me. :cry2:

Thanks for the feedback all.
