I think the vast majority of people who bother to compete with their Mustangs do so in some form of drag racing. Personnally I enjoy the challenge of making a turn at the end of a fast straightaway.

Where can we do this in the Great White North?

Here in Halifax we hold 10 autoslalom events hosted by our local car club, the Atlantic Sports Car Club. We are also closely associated with clubs in NB and NF.

Lapping and Solo 1 events are held at Atlantic Motorsports Park, the local 1.5 mile 11 turn road race circuit.

Hey! The one on the spash page for my web site? It is indeed the dreaded turn 11 at AMP :)

Like just about everyone who has ever pushed their car around AMP I once dropped the right side of the car into the grass coming out of 11 and ended up going down the front stretch sideways! Finished up in the infield pointing toward the pit wall and a round of applause from the crowd :Duh:

Yes we have all done it , I dropped , kept my foot in and road it out all the way to corner one. My best trick was in "gus's ranger " backwards through one in traffic without any incident.

I am fairly new to this but I am becoming convinced that AMP has the best "local flavour" of any track in the country.

I keep hearing stories of someone doing a race school in the family van.

I have had to come in during a lapping session to let the course workers chase a porcupine the size of a St. Bernard off the course.

And there's nothing like finally learning how to nail turn 6 (for others - its an off camber left going up and over a small hill) and feeling the rear of the car lift lift lift!

From what I have read, Mustangs of that era had an excellent record in the Trans-Am series. How do you find the 70 Mach 1 through the twisties? Any mods to help out? (A three point seat belt instead of just a lap belt perhaps? :LOL: )

beats the late model guys on the straights, and stays about even on the corners if their cars are stock.
Plans to lower 2" but need new headers 1st, they'll hit otherwise (cheapies previous owner had installed)
Would love to go coil-overs & Rack'n'pinion system, but waiting for the Lottery win. :)

This year was my first full season of autoslalom, lapping and Solo 1. Ran a couple of autoslaloms and lapping days late last year and about 4 years in hobby stock cars about 20 years ago :)

As you say, this road race stuff is highly addictive.

Looking into a Bullitt suspension as the major upgrade this winter. And maybe some performance mufflers, just so the guys in the club will stop razing me about my "horse's whinney" :rolleyes:

I ran Hawk HPS+ pads this season. I liked them a lot but they make a serious mess! My first lapping day this season I put something like 200Km on the car and it took me two washings to get all the brake dust off. Fortunately my car is black! Kudos to your site for mentioning:
