05 wheel hop

I have an 05 GT that has the worst wheel hop. I am pretty sure that means I should be looking for a good set of lower control arms. I just want to eliminate the problem before I start breaking u-joints. I think Ford really cheaped out on the bushings for the control arms. Any advice from someone whos been in my spot before would be awesome thanks.

I had wheel hop so bad at one time, my DS should have broke lol...

My problem was my Quad shocks were pooched, changed and problem solved..in your case im not sure.

I would suggest NOT going with that setup. If you're going to bother with lca's and a uca I HIGHLY suggest getting an andjustable UCA. Being able to adjust your pinion angle can greatly help with traction/hop.

That being said do you have any suspension mods at all? I would suggest getting some solid lca's and an adjustable uca at the same time. Those were all I needed to get rid of the wheel hop.

Which way did you have to push the pinion angle? My suspension is totally stock as i drive my car all year long. Im not sure if i want to lower it due needing some ground clearance in the winter. If I bought a good set of LCAs and an adjustable UCA is it ok to use them now with all stock suspension parts and later if i lower the car? Thanks for all the help.

For me -3 degrees worked the best. You want the pumpkin to be tipping down towards the driveshaft.

You should be able to use a set of lca's and an adjustable uca with the stock suspension and then lowered, no problem. If you do lower the car in the future you might want to look into getting a set of "weld in" not bolt in lca relocation brackets(steeda makes really good ones) but those wont be needed unless you lower it more than 1". I would also suggest using pieces that use bushings not poly rod ends. Unless you are going full drag car then noise they make will drive you nuts vs the extra stability.

On my 05gt I did not get the hop-I never drove it hard. Seriously though the 2 times down the 1/4 I did not notice any hop and I spun through 1st:chacha:

My '07 V6 5-speed hops bad! I can't jump on it in first (either from a stop, or a roll-on), and even a hard shift to 2nd does the same. In the rain, it is unbearable. Even a gentle attempt at leaving a stoplight in the rain produces lots of this: :banghead:. The rear has 3.73s/w Auburn carrier, solid LCA (poly bushings). Everything else is stock. I'm thinking about an adjustable UCA, but don't know if it will cure the evil hop.

I had the same problem on my '89. Upgraded the Quads and it fixed it. Not sure if '05's even have the Quad setup anymore, but it was a cheap and easy fix for me. :0)

New quad shocks fixed the problem on my '85 LX as well. I wish the fix was as simple as that on the '05-up cars.

Yea like I said, anyone I've talked to just needed to swap out the lca's for some good aftermarket ones. Most everyone get's an adjustable uca at the same time cause it's easy to swap both while you're down there. I've talked to atleast 10 different people where those two things fixed the problem.

The only real change comes if you have the car lowered more than an inch. If you have it lowered anywhere from 1.5"+ then those two might not be enough because you have altered the cars suspension geometry. Getting a set of weld in lca relocation bracket + using the uca to get the pinion angle where it should be, should fix it. If you look at a s197 that is lowered significantly you can see that the lca's are horizontal or damn close to it. You don't want that, you want them to be angled like they are stock. The lca relocation brackets allow you to adjust them and fix that problem.

Good LCA will fix your wheel hop. Get a UCA (adjustable) to correct any pinion angle.

roddy 05-03-2009 08:14 AM

I'm lowered approx. 3/4"-1", and have the hotpart LCAs. I still have wheelhop. I picked up a steeda UCA, and I'll see if that cures the issue when I install it.

kena 05-03-2009 09:24 AM

And what kind of ends do you have on them?

roddy 05-04-2009 05:37 AM

Polyurethane bushings...It's a street car, first and foremost, so I'm not willing to listen to the added noise of rod ends.

kena 05-04-2009 08:18 AM

Well it looks like you may need some better tires then.

lowlife 05-04-2009 01:25 PM

new bushings may help a bit

500 HP and you only spun through 1st lol :bleh:

Probably got off of it

Does anyone know of anyone who has bought the SVT LCA's from ford racing?
They are original equipment of the 07 SVT mustangs and i think possibly the shelbys as well. Or is it worth my while to just buy an adjustable UCA and keep in the stock LCA's.
I really just don't want to buy parts that wont help anything. It only hops in a straight line when for example you are at a slow roll and hammer the gas, around corners they'll spin the way they should. There was only one good thing about the snow, no hop what so ever!

kena 05-14-2009 09:00 AM

You may want to look at UCA and LCA replacement, and I would use a good quality aftermarket product like CHE. If you change the UCA get the bracket as well it is much better than the stock tin bracket. CHE offers a variety of ends for their products so you can set it up to your liking. Also they have an Anti Squat bracket that may be worth looking at.

A friend of mine has a GT500, and it has crazy wheelhop...I don't think those control arms are the answer.
