Clutch Chatter

Here's the deal, when I let the clutch out I am getting some chattering, and it seems a lot worse in reverse. If I try to let the clutch out slowly, its very noticeable, but if I keep the rpm's up a bit, and almost drop it out, its not there, but obviously thats not ideal. So.......is it shot, and time to replace it, or can this be adjusted or something? Any help would be great, this is driving me crazy.:banghead:

is it an aftermartket performace clutch or oem replacement. i know some performance clutches tend to chatter a little and there'll be nothing wrong. but maybe it is time to go with a different clutch. i ended up stranding myself last year luckily only two km's out of town and my folks just pulled me home. but if this is your DD i wouldn't really risk it. you noticing any other symptoms? heavy clutch pedal, wierd sounds as you depress the clutch?
maybe a clutch kit, cable and maybe even a firewall adjuster should be in your near future. :tup

I dont know if it's factory or not, no other symptoms though. The car is not my dd, I actually park it during the winter, and will likely get it looked at before I bring it out next spring. If I do have to relpace the clutch, any suggestions? I dont race the car, and its pretty much stock, but I do plan on some minor performance upgrades, such as gt40 upper/lower intake, cold air, fuel pump, injectors, and possibly heads.

sounds like maybe someone was riding the clutch at one time, or, slipped it bad, and burnt the flywheel.
That would definatly make it chatter.

Again, some aftermarkets ones will do this also, but won't feel like stock......
and, will be on or off, no slip.......

for the cost of all those mods, you could just drop a Vortech on there and it would be faster.....
I have a Vortech blower on my sttock engine 94GT...
Dynos at 315hp to the wheels, with 352 ft/lbs torque.... different car, and the gas mileage on the highway is still awesome ! (if you keep you're foot out of it).

This thread on your problems might be helpful to your car's new owner - did I hear you say you gave him a CMOC card by chance? Just curious.

Sorry guys I appreciate the helpful tips, but actually the clutch was fine, my mechanic said that somebody put an aftermarket clutch in it with an adjuster on the firewall, and only needed to be adjusted. Couldnt sell it the way it was, but it's all good now.:tup

And yes I gave him a CMOC card, I told him the majority of the members here are really helpful. I'm sure he'll join.

Now THAT's subtle, but funny!! :chacha:

I colored the font red because of the blood dripping on my keyboard from the sharp, verbal jab I received. Nicely done, but you kind of hurt my feelings.

OK - not really.
