My Rear End Build *Pics*

Pulled the rear end out, had it dipped and painted it up. Put all new bearings in, 3.55s, new clutches. New Lakewood upper and lower control arms in. And oh my goodness what a difference in performance and feel. I love it! I would definitely recommend it!

Rebuild Time
Attachment 19920 Final Product Attachment 19921 Attachment 19922 Attachment 19923 Left the quad shocks out as you can see. Id estimate the total cost to be around $1200 excluding labor. It was a fun project and i am very happy with the result! Only regret was i wish i put more then 2 coats of paint on the rear end. Interesting thing was some of the barrings where the same as the ones used in my dads chevy 12 bolt rear ends. We pulled them out and my dad recognized the part #. |
Very nice
Do you have a break down on costs? Did you use air tools? How long did you take? This would have been an awesome DIY! |
That looks much better and x2 on the above questions-I am a reporter tehehe

black coupes!!!!!! wicked rear of yours u got! |
The cost goes up quickly, doesn't it.
It looks like you have done a nice job. |
Excellent :tup.I bet she feels new.
This is one thing i plan to do in the near future......i hope.I would like to somewhat bulletproof the rear,i only half assed it for now with axles, control arms, and diff cover, but rather do the whole centre section with bigger splined axles, and welded up tubes.Plus toss in a set of 4.30's,and ditch the 4.10's. :D Do you have a break down on cost of parts? |
nice .

how much hp can the new setup handle

Sorry for the late replies guys. Been busy with exams at school!
I meant to do an official break down but parts and the $$ started to add after i got rolling so i decided not to total it up. I waited it out and got a pretty good deal on almost everything i bought. The gears were brand new pull offs i got for $120 i think? There was no pattern on them at all. Control arms were about ~ $250 the dip was through a friend and was $60 ( strongly recommend, at first i was planning on wire wheeling of the rust, which would have not been nearly as good as the dip ) clutch pack, bearings and seals id say were $350 ( thats every bearing and seal in the rear end ) And yea the $$ added up fast haha. Just things like the master cylinder and the break pads/springs, i just replaced because i wanted to get the whole thing done. I didnt initially plan on doing that. I did this a good 8 months ago so those figures could be off a bit. Um i did use air tools, but the control arm bolts are a big pain in the ass. Broke 3 ratchets trying to get those suckers loose. They were just seized. Didnt break very many thankfully, broke more bolts getting the water pump out in the fall haha. Not alot of specialty tools were used. Just a decent amount of time and patience to score the perfect gear mesh. Not to sure how much hp it can handle, but it sure is alot better with the 3.55s, and no longer having an embarrassing 1 wheel peel! |
And i got this question before, but the reason i didnt swap to a 5 lug at the time was because i have fairly decent rubber on the ponys, and i dont feel the need to swap them out right now. I have the axels at home, picked them up dirt cheap too. Just a matter of time!
