New and need help
I have a 1992 Mustang LX with a 2.3 L 4 cyl Auto Trans. The problem I am having is with the safety switch to get the shifter out of Park. It works sometimes but is very temperamental and sometimes takes much playing around to get it out of park. Once out of park everything works fine. As it stands I am now leaving it in neutral and using the parking brake (and in the cold weather the parking brake seems to freeze but that is another question and I have a guy to look at the brakes :-) ) I have been told that there is a relay switch I can disconnect that will bypass this safety feature however I do not know where it is located.
Please help. Keith |

I had the same problem with my Mustang... But I don't recommend fixing it the way I did.

are you sure it's an electrical problem or mechanical? My 82 z28 had the same thing, it wouldn't come out of park because the hook that locked it into place was all messed, ended up just replacing the whole shifter to a B&M setup.. idk if a 92 would have something like that. but tear u a new 1 has a good point check it out in a manual.

I have the Haynes manual and I am still stumped. I have figured out a way around it. If I turn the key part way forward it will come out of park and then I just start it in 'N'.
