Swapping 7.5 for an 8.8

Swapping 7.5 for an 8.8

OK,

Found an 8.8 rearend from a 91 explorer with 3.73 gears..will this swap into my Mustang or will it be too wide...

any thoughts?

It will not fit. Mounting locations, ects are way different. You need one from a stang.

I'll second that. However, if the price is cheap enough, buy it anyway. The gears and carrier are interchangeable with a Mustang 8.8. Most Mustang 8.8s are only 2.73 or 3.08.

If you get one from a Mustang make sure it is from 94-04 as the earlier ones are narrower and had drum brakes. I'm not sure about 05 and up. If you get one from 96-04 there a good chance it will have a 3.27 gear set. I think 94-95 were 2.73.

You need a unit from a 99 - 04 Mustang to get the proper track width. 94 - 98 were narrower.

Buuuut the '94 to '98 will work though if you want to run a wider rim with a different off set. A few have done so for that reason.

That's right, the earlier SN95 axle would work great with minitubs or deeper dish / staggered wheels.
