Switching standard to automatic transmission
I have a 65 Mustang with a 289 standard. I want to switch it to an automatic transmission. What all will I need to do this? Is the starter the same, or do I have to switch it too? What about the, flywheel? Do I need to change the crossmember? Do I need a different transmission mount? Can I use the same driveshaft that currently have with the standard transmission? Do I need a linkage for the carborator for the kick down cable? Do you where I can get the shifter assembly?

switching standard to automatic
I love standard, but automatic is less work when driving. I just want to enjoy the drive. I only drive it a few times in the summer and go to carshows...no racing.

oh good call on the value thingy

Or at least keep all of the original parts to convert it back, if / when you decide to sell the car ... assuming it is an original stick car.

^^^^^Lots of good advice from those above!

I do like FastEds idea 10/10

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I appreciate it. My car is currently numbers matching, so it is a shame to switch out the transmission...especially when there is nothing wrong with it. The car is totally original. It would just be a nice easy drive if it were automatic...

so which way are you leaning ultimately?
