Tie rods

So here is the story, have a 2004 V6 mustang and iv been to a couple of places to get work done and they said that my tie rods are going, so iv been going around asking for prices but i went to the ford dealership here to get a spring maintenance done on the car and i got a report card back saying that my steering was good i was like WTF! I went to another ford dealership in town and they said that it would be $58 for someone to look at my car and then she said that if you needed an oil change... that when i stopped her and said i got the report card and they said everything is ok. But every other place iv gone to they said that i need to get it looked at ! She replied then your ok in ford standard.... (so when it breaks am i out of ford standards ?)

where is a good place to get good product and pricing in the K/W area.

the car only has 81,000 km on it

Car has 81 000 im claiming BS on the tie rods gone. I would say ford is right, I have many more miles on my car with the factory tie rods and mine are still good.

do you know how long the factory ones should last?

That I cant tell ya, but if your ford dealer says there fine, then they should be good to go.

K's don't matter.When i bought a '98 F150 STX brand spankin new,at 34,000 kilometers,a tie rod let go on me,and snapped in half(glad i was parking into a parking spot when it happenned??!!),and the other was on it's way.
But at the same time i do agree that something isn't right. If Ford says they are good, you should be alright.But.....that isn't true all the time either!!Depends on the dealer!
Unless you are hearing a clunking sound when hitting bumps, ects,or any slight vibration at high speeds, you are good to go.If you are still uncertain, jack her up,and move the wheel side to side while you have someone look at the tie rod joint to see if there is any huge play at all. That is what i would do.

well so far I don't feel or hear anything so I think I'm good but i will jack up the car and try the wheel thing. thanks for the info!

Sorry no offense but those trucks are junk and hack from the production line!
My mother has a 98 4x4, the doors are so weak the paint chips and rotts out, the center links don't last more then 2 weeks LOL, and lets not get started on the tie rods.
Back on the door subject, you look at ANY one of those trucks and look at the doors right at the bottom of the window, at the back. Not to mention all are our company trucks are the same, and all have the same problem.
The problems are all the same on everyone it should have been a recall! :banghead:
Only way to avoid this is roll down the window a crack and shut the door, air pressure is so tight the door flexes!
I should have told OVERKILL about this, and how Ford did a great job on them :laughhard
