Vibration, metal clinking sound.

Hi ya,

I replaced my OEM clutch for a Dual F CENTERFORCE clutch 5 month ago on my 02 GT. I hit the first stop sign after i picked up the car and when on Nutral i heard a metal clinking noise. When u press the clutch (push in) it goes away. Now it doesnt do it when the car is cold, just after 10 minute of driving. The mechanic said that my clutch is cable is streched out, and the TB is resting on the forks.
And the fix is a steeda cable adjustement kit. I still didnt do the fix, wayting till summer time. Now im having another problem, my car is vibrating between 1000 and 2000rpm in any gear. past 2000rpm vibration goes away. Doesnt vibrate when in nutral though. Seems the vibration is coming from clutch pedal/tranny.
Note that the TB and the Pilot bearing changed with the clutch, flywheel resurfaced ofcourse.
Are these 2 problems related somehow? whats causing it? is the mechanic (a mustang expert) telling the truth about the cable adjuster kit fix?

Realy apreciate the help folks.

Regards

Make sure the DS is clean.

Do the throw out bearing , fork assembly all in one shot.

when you replaced the clutch, did you replace the throw out bearing as well?

TOPLSFOX 02-23-2009 11:06 PM

Definitely sounds like the throw bearing,.....

TB and pilot bearings replaced

He replaced the Throwout bearing, pilot bearing and resurfaced the flywheel. What is wierd about this is it does it when the car is warm after like 15 minutes of driving. when cold no noise..also i failed to mention that with the vibration between 1000rpm and 2000rpm im hearing the same metal rattling noise. When i pass 2000rpm everything back to normal.
Could be the cable streching out and the TB rest on the forks crating that metal rattling sound like he said? This guy supposed to be a Mustang Specialist, altho i would like your opinion on this.

Just take it back to the guy.

i would say no on the cable... either the throw out bearing is pooched or he put it in wrong...

Like I said,.. quite wasting your time trying to figure it out,.. if you paid to have this done taker it back,... let us know how it goes.

Something seems out of balance or worn out. How were your u-joints?

I had this same problem with my daily driver.... It was the new TB it had failed right after install. Same sypmtoms-no noise when cold or with the clutch in. I also used to get it idling in Nuetral with the clutch out. Bring it back.... There seems to be more than just the cable.
