Smog Pump - Do I need it or not?
Hi, I am new to this forum so if this is anissue that has been discussed in the past, I apologize. I have a 1986 Mustang GT Convertible, mainlystock. My Smog Pump is making a howling noise(most likely the bearing). The questionI have, is, do I really need the smog pump? Can I just put in a shorter belt and just leave the smog pump in place? OrIf it is an essential part, where can I get one in Canada (with Canadian dollars)at a reasonable price?

Yes you need it but "no" you don't. My old 85 gt passed the e test back in the day without it. But..... visually it has to be there. Not worth the fines for missing smog parts.

Damn that sucks, even on a 30yr old car?. If I had to put mine back on I'd be pretty pi**ed. Those things weigh a ton.

Move to Alberta. lol

Ya it's not worth the fine for it missing. By law if it was equipped it must remain.

Now's your chance to buy a centrifugal supercharger and paint it rust brown!, "uh, yeah! that's the smog pump"
