2001 Cobra supercharge?
Anyone have any first hand experience supercharging (or turbo) on an all aluminum 2001 4V? My understanding is they will not take much boost...
|
I have seen videos of 4V's making 24#'s of boost.
Those engines are great for making insane power number's! Referring to the 03-04's I'm a 5.0 guy, ill let someone like 1LOW03GT step in, he has more under his belt for the 4.6L but you will soon learn you have a engine that will amaze yourself :) |
big boost on '01?
All the information I've found states anything over 9 pounds boost on the 2001 is asking for trouble. I can understand big boost with the '03-'04 4V but I am concerned about the apparently weaker Al block on the '01.

Weaker block, plus relatively high compression with pistons, rods, and crank not designed for boost. Wouldn't it make more sense to buy an 03-04 instead?

Yes, an '03 or '04 would make more sense but unfortunately  I've got this low Km '01 'vert taking up space in my garage right now...Maybe she'll go up for sale later this year to make room for the next project. :) I would like to hear from anyone who has put 5-9 pounds to an '01 to figure out if it's worth it or not. Cost-wise I'm thinking it's not really worth it.

Yeah, definitely not one of the best blocks to use for a blown application.Guys have done it with moderate boost to be safe.
I've seen pics, and videos where the rods have gone threw the side of the block LOL! |
The block and crank are not the problem, they will handle just about anything. It's the pistons (hyperutectic) and powdered rods that are the weak link.
With that said, get a good tune and don't get greedy with the boost and she should last for a while if the motors healthy to begin with. |

I think I may stick with a good tune, gears etc. to be safe. I seem to exchange toys every two years anyway...wife loves that! Thanks for the input. :tup
