Good source for parts?
 

I've just bought a 1986 GT (5.0L H/O) in Victoria, BC CDA. Does anyone know of a good local or on-line parts supplier for this model year? I've been to Steeda.ca and they only list parts for mustangs 1987 and up.

Second question: I would like to up the HP and while i can do some stuff myself, i'm no pro. Does anyone have any suggestions in terms of most bang for my buck? don't mind a long list of things, as i plan on doing this over the next year or two, adding parts as i can afford them, but what i'd like to know is what's the first thing to do, second, third, etc in terms of bang i'm gonna get for my dollar. also, if i do one thing does a second have to be done at the same time (eg: if i put in a more lumpy or aggressive cam, do i also have to add something else when i do so?). so to summarize, whadda i do? new cam, new cold intake, new headers, exhaust system, etc etc?

Start with 3.73 gears then move on to the exhaust and headders.

thanks much for the response. i've done some asking around myself and talked to my mechanic who said exactly the same thing as you - he's the best around, so you're in good company!!!
i guess i first need to know if i have a 7.5 or 8.8 rear before i can order the 3.73 gears as they differ for each i presume? how do i know if i have a 7.5 or 8.8 (my car's all stock, does that mean it's 7.5?) if it's 7.5, should i be replacing the whole rear-end with and 8.8 with 3.73 gears, or should i just put 3.73 in the 7.5? seems to me if i'm going to the bother of putting in 3.73 gears and i've got a 7.5 rear, i might as well go whole hog and move up to an 8.8 rear end. or am i wrong about this?
i do need to do the exhaust next (mine's pretty bad - looks good cause previous owner stuck 2ft of new 3" pipe on the end, but the rest of it is rusted and showing holes. once i got to the exhaust, what do you recommend in terms of brand and product? flowmaster 40? or something else? in terms of headers, is Hookers a good brand? or do you think something else? ceramic headers - are they worth it? any imput in terms of brand of headers and exhaust and model of headers and exhaust would be much appreciated.

Hello again Steve. Your car should have the 8.8, I think 85 or 6 was the first year for it. The flowmasters are a good muffler/cat back, they do seem to have a bad drone at highway speeds, its not as bad with the 373's as your cruise RPM is higher. Hookers are a good header and the ceramic is worth it, I have ceramic coated MAC headers on my truck and after 3 years of all season driving they are still looking good. I have flowmasters on my 04 GT and there is a drone at 2200 rpm but its not that bad... I think any exhaust is good, i know there are a lot on youtube, sounds that is, guys starting their car and reving it up in their driveway to show you how good it sounds... might help a bit? Lots of guys like the magnaflo...

86 is the 1st year for the 8.8, the 85 had a 7.5.
Im pretty sure ALL 6 and 4 cylinder cars had a 7.5 as well.
