no turbo kits for 3.7
Hi Guys,
I was hoping to buy a turbo kit in the next year or 2 for my 2011 v6, but I haven't been able to find anyone selling them. This is my daily driver, so I was hoping to keep usability and fuel economy for commuting (SC is out), but all I see are Supercharger kits. anyone know of a turbo kit available or coming? I was hoping to install myself, hence the kit. |
If you are already planning to do some of the work yourself, just go DIY all around. I dont know how the kits are these days, but often times kits still needed some fab work.
You need piping, cooler, turbo, something to log a/f. Some tools and a welder. Personally, if i had time and didnt care I would do it myself. But if its your daily i suggest you leave it stock. |
Why is the s/c out of the question?
|
I'm sure Hellion will have a kit soon enough. Maybe if you contact them the will be able to let you know if anything is in the works.
|
As I understand it, a S/C will drop fuel economy in any type of driving, while a Turbo will only do so if I use the extra ponys.

^^^I agree 1000%. If you are not hard on the accelerator or drive normally the s/c does not come into play. Hammer it and boost climbs=gas mileage decreases
|
Most people I talk to about S/C talk about mechanical load on the engine to drive the S/C, or how much hp they consume. Maybe I'm mistaken, but to me this means lower fuel economy.
From what I can find about Turbos, there is no load (there is back pressure, but that's a different topic), and some even claim an economy increase. |
Exactly how much hp are you looking to run with the 11 v6? In one of my previous posts I mentioned that driving from Calgary to Golden BC which is approximately a 3 hour drive uphill the 500hp at my motor got 28.2 mpg. Not to sure but I do not think a guy can ask for much more than that.

There is a member on another site that is currently working on such a project. When she (yes, SHE) is ready, it will likely be offered as a kit. She did this for the 4.0, and the results were impressive to say the least.
I'm running a positive displacement blower on my '07 V6 (love it!!), and if there is a difference in gas mileage, I don't see it during "normal" driving. Turbos are cool, and properly set up, will trump either type of blower. |
I've seen some crazy numbers out of the old 4.0 v6, but I'm thinking more conservatively, maybe 80-100 hp/trq increase. As for economy, I haven't been able to stretch the car's legs yet, but highway is rated close to 40mph (imperial, not US). I'll be testing that soon.

not bad re mpg. I was at Metro Ford last night looking at a 12gt vert and the mpgs were 23/37. Not bad for a 5.0 I must say.
|
As a temporary solution to get better performance, you could upgrade exhaust, 93 oct tune, 3.73 gear + big sticky tires. Installing turbo kits are awesome but a lot of work. plus as a DD reliability may come into play.
|
As a DD, I was hoping not to do anything that would increase DD costs (one time costs, I seem to be OK with). CAI is on order, I was considering a tune, but that would be redundant if I bought a turbo or s/c. gears are out for this reason.

you seem informed so I do not see you wasting any dough

google education ftw.
Edit: Anyone have any experience with TMA turbos? I see they seem to be working on a 2012 v6. |
turbo threads I've been following if anyone else is interested:

I've been watching Jenna's project for a while. If the results with her 4.0 kit are any indicator, when she and Brian get this done, it will be a beast.
|
Jennifer Anne does have quite the build going on. Its a fun one to follow.
|
for some reason I think the 4.0 is a stronger base line motor to start with but I could be so very wrong
