Procharger vs Vortech

Hey Guys, could I hear your opinions on whether I should put a Vortech V2 SQ-S or a Procharger PISC on my mustang. It is bone stock 5.0 right now but I plan to change the trottle body, gears, put in posi. my goal is to race street class at the track and the car will just be a weekend burn. quite a difference in price between the two superchargers so is procharger that much better? :tup

I currently run a vortech myself. Knowing your model and seeing what i have seen before on the dyno with them, I am guessing it is likely putting out 160 RWHP stock.

Add a blower, a snows performance kit and gears right away. The car will feel like a monster.

Remember, plan for further expenses. Fuel system etc.

Ebay has a blower on right now: here.

what gear chage is best? going to be mostly running on street & hitting track 3-4 times a year. 3.73?

3.73's are best, especially if you plan a power adder. Do NOT buy a used blower off ebay. I know it says it is new, but, I talked to a guy no more than 2 weeks ago who bought one of these "new" units off ebay. Ironically the reason for the sale was "wrecked car". It may have been a new boxes, but he got stung big time. A POS.

Pro-Charger all the way.....!
I'm running the D1sc 10PSI and I love it.

The reason why people pick Pro-Charger is because it is inter cooled.
If you do make sure it is a SC = Self Contained blower, I hate sharing my engine oil with a blower. SC takes its own Pro-Charger oil :)

With self contained you should be checking the fluid often. It runs dry, good bye seals on the blower.

While a feed from the engine is nice, it too has its down side. Contaminants can def. hurt your blower if you go boom :)

I have had a self contained blower before, never again.

my 94GT has ...

I have a Vortech on my 94GT, not sure of the Model Vortech (V-1 ?), but it has an oil feed line on it.
It already had it on it when I bought the car in April, and has been on the car since 2002 so 6 yrs and no issues.

When I bought the car in April it had stock injectors (19 lb) and 2 fuel pumps (a helper) and was using the FMU type system (bad idea). It Dyno'd 250 hp to the rears, with 9 lbs boost.
DaSilva changed the injectors to 39 lb, changed to a proper in-tank fuel pump, added an Anderson "Mr. Freeze" chemical intercooler, and Dyno tuned it burning in a new custom tune. Runs awesome !
Dyno increased to 310 hp to the rears with these changes alone.

Engine is bone stock otherwise, with BBK shorty headers and flowmaster exhaust, and has 3.73 gears.
Car has 116,000 kms and runs like brand new, no oil burning, no issues. I run Synthetic 5W30 oil.

Recommend the Anderson "Mr. Freeze" Chemical Intercooler over the Snow Perf unit, as it has no pumps, and nothing that can fail. Boost sucks the charge into the system so it's idiot proof. Ran it at Mosport and a 20 minute lap session used 3/4 of the intercooler reservoir up, so that would be ALOT of street driving before it went dry, as on the track you're under boost ALOT and for long stretches, unlike the street or drag track. And windsheild washer is cheap... lol

Haven't dragged it so can't speak to 1/4 mile times, but it sure was fun Road Course racing !

Be careful what you wish for with that 5.0L engine though. I hear 350 to the rears is about Max, as the 94-95 engines use hypertuetectic pistons, unlike the forged pistons in the Fox body 5.0L engines, and are therefore not as strong an engine in this area. Too much boost or trying to get it to do too much = *poof*.... it'll hand grenade.
Also the T5 tranny isn't rated for much more than that either.
I built mine for reliability & longevity.
Unless you have deep pockets, I would do the same.
And beleive me, a jump from stock to what I now have is a huge increase. Huge "WoW' factor.

If your Blower is running dry you have a problem somewere.
I have had my blower for a couple years now, I dont beat the out of my car nor do I drive it every day but I have yet to have a problem.

Next build is Twin Turbo FTW.

not saying it's dry....

He's not saying it's dry, he just wants to compare the type of Supercharger that has it's own self contained oiling system, to that of one like mine that feeds oil from the engine oil pump thru a feed-line into the supercharger.

I to have a Vortech. and i cant find any problem with it.
