Also guys, lets say i get this Tlok installed with the 4.10 gears. What other sort of things do i need to change? Speedo? Anything else goin on i should know about?

archer379 Mar 10, 2008 11:47 AM

you sould do all your seals and things in your rear end to do the speedo if your car is a auto then you need something like a xcal2 to change your speedo you can pick one up used for 200 bucks or so if your car is a standard there is a modual you can get but the name of it ecapes me right now

j2stang Mar 10, 2008 04:59 PM

Do you HAVE to use an xcal2 or something, does it just make your speedo not show probably? If so how far off does it go, and if i only put in a traction lock and not gears do i still need to do so?

if you just do the t loc you don't need the xcal. if you do gears your speedo will be off i don't think there is any other problems. Here is a thought if you can find a 8.8 rearend out of a 99 to 04 that will give you the t loc and a stronger rear end and save you on labour charges the hole rear end should cost you 800 to a grand. but they shouldn't be to hard to put in your self if tou buy gears and a t loc say 500 bucks then labour seals fluid and the install kit you will be up near the cost of a hole rear end. how ever you will still have the factory gear ratio.

have you been to the wreckers at all i have a t loc sitting here for a 7.5that one day i will get around to putting in i got it for 30.00 bucks and the fuel to drive to niagra falls to pick it up

Doing a rearend is NOT cheap!
Im not sure how your tranny is, but I do know in the T-5's there is a speedo gear you need to change to make your speedo correct or "close to" I had to install a white gear and it was like $25.00 from DaSilva's.

Here ya go....this will give you a good idea on whats going on......
Gear swap in 8.8

a have a brand new set of 456 gears you would love those $190

j2stang Mar 11, 2008 07:34 AM

Labour is free for me. So i'm only worried about getting the traction lock and whatever seals etc i need. What should I be looking for in the junkyard that would have the tlock i need? I hear its in some rangers and some older stangs...anyone know exact years?

on the 99 to 04 it is all done with the computer. As for the years i think it was the early 80's rangers and mustangs

94-98 have a speedo gear in the tranny.

j2stang Mar 12, 2008 12:52 PM
