04 Repaint question
 

Hey Guys,

Looks like my front end needs a repaint, unfortunately it was a daily driver for a few years and suffered the wear and tear associated with that.... and yes two winters. I was wondering how hard it would be to take the hood, bumper and front quarters off and repaint and how bad would it look if i didn't do the whole car...

Why I ask is this....

My neighbour has a small paint booth in his garage to paint street bikes, I am sure if we did piece by piece it would fit, but since my car won't entirely fit in because it was set up for a fender, tank and etc paint job i don't think i can do the roof?

Let me know if this is a good idea or not? or am i just crazy?

i think in all honesty if you're going to go to that trouble.. at least get the rest of it re-finished. it really depends on what condition the paint is in and the color. I had just my hood and bumper done on my '90 eclipse... it looked like crap untill i got the rest done. if you can get a killer deal from your friend next door do it, but get the rest of the car detailed, maybe wetsanded?

If the back half is still descent,leave the front fenders,hood,and facia on,this way they could be blended for a better finish.Doing it your way will look odd as you will be able to tell.A good body man would blend into the existing good section,to give it an even look.:tup

if your goin to paint your parts off, make sure your carefull putting them back,tape your edges .you couold allways buff the rear end, as long as the color matches on the new paint

I would do the whole car that way it matches!
I wouldnt do piece by piece, then its gonna be a PITA to get all your seams perfect again, just do it all.

Thanks for the input guys, I must just ditch the bumper and repaint that, its plastic and has been hammered by bugs and stones... also probably sand and salt... its really ruff...

I was looking for the new car look with out paying the $3000+ getting the whole thing painted... the doors look good and so does the rear.... just front damage from normal 4 season driving.

What if you buy a new bumper and skirts? do you have to repaint the entire car... or i am assuming everyone will say you don't have to but you should...

just paint the parts, it will be good enough, like you said, its a 4 season car, just buff and wax the rest

Actually its now not a 4 season car... it was for the first two years, as of now, it hasn't seen snow tires in two years... I guess i want it back to what it was when i drove it off the lot! Actually I dove it out of the show room when i worked there!!!

What you are describing is normal wear,and tear.
I had my front bumper repainted,and it matches the rest of the car pretty good,then i added a cowl hood,and it matched pretty good too.A good body shop should be able to match your skirts,and facia without issue.Heck,depending on the color of the stang,like the ones with metallics in it,never matched that perfect from the factory any ways.LOL!Take a close look at the silver ones.LOL:bleh:

Bumpers never really match that well anyways, i see new cars day in day out, and 85% of them have manufacture Paint and the bumpercolor is off BIG time! I paint them every day, at least 3. Bumpers are a different composite from the body, it aint easy to get it dead on without blending.You also have to remember you are matching a sun fadded color aswell, (in some cases)Close is usually good enough
