2011 GT Grabber Blue Paint detail.

My pal called and wanted to clean up her Mustang, I had the day off and brought my detailing supplies along, with the help of her husband we begin our 10 hour Paint detail. What a nice colour, Grabber blue is now my second favorite colour next to Vapor silver:wink:

Dawn liquid soap Wash was first used to aid in removing any prior wax, used in a foam cannon and left to soak for 5 min then a proper clean with a Clay Bar. Washed once more with Chemical Guys Citrus Wash, and blow dried with a leaf blower this left the finish "silky smooth" With no previous wax left behind.
Griots machine polish 1& 2 followed up with 2 coats of Chemical guys xxx Hard Core Paste wax.
Here are a few pictures.

Great job, looks fantastic. 10 hours of detailing is Snakebite worthy. lol

Red Pony 01-08-2012 08:45 PM

Beautiful shine! Unbelievable satisfaction with that job, I'm sure!

Yeah absolutely! It looks great, and of course it's my favourite colour.:chacha:

I have never used that product, as I am now totally sold on Maquires Ultimate Compound, then AutoGlym polish, and AutoGlym wax, but I'm curious when you say you used Griots machine polish 1& 2, is the 1st one a compound?

DublDee 01-08-2012 11:18 PM

The only reason I ask, is because I may consider trying it, and When i did mine, I think it was far more than 10 hours, with the compound, polish and wax, but when i was done there was not even the slightest swirl in the paint anywhere. It was like looking into water. Of course that was on my 2010 Grabber Blue, and I just traded it off for a new 2012 Grabber Blue, so I get to do it all over again.

I used the Porter Cable 742. Here's a link to the Griot's Machine polish... Machine polish 1 was used for a few deeper scratches with Lake Country yellow pad the machine polish 2 was used for swirls with a Lake Country orange pad. The wax was applied with a red pad :tup
The owner was very excited, it came out nice!
I have used the Chemical Guys machine line of polishes on my Shelby and found it great but I had run out..
A few tip's that I have followed and works well for me, If your gonna use a Random-Orbit polisher. Start clean, the cleaner the paint the better. work in small sections 1.5'x1.5', take a sharpie and place a noticeable mark on the pad.. so you can see if they're still rotating! Slowly work the polish until it breaks down and goes a little dusty, wipe the area down with a microfiber cloth and inspect. Have good lighting and mega patients it's takes a lot of time.

I honestly think my hood is shinier than the Vet hood in the second video or am I wrong?
