Best product to use to clean interior

What should I use to clean the interior of my 11 v6 premium? what products do you all prefer?

Apocalypse Pony 02-13-2014 03:47 AM

Windex Auto Glass cleaner for the windows and instrument cluster, make sure you get the clear stuff that says it's safe for tinted windows, the ammonia in the household blue Windex will eventually break down and destroy window tint if you use it enough times (seen it first hand, been there, done it). Meguiars Interior Cleaner/Detailer for plastic panels, and assuming you have leather seats in a Premium , hit up the mail order for Zaino Leather Cleaner (spray bottle) and Zaino Leather Conditioner (liquid).

Yes to leather seats, thanks for the information, will grab what you listed and give it a go. The Maguire can be used for the dash also?

I just use a damp microfibre cloth on the dash because I'm terrified to use anything else after watching Armor All slowly destroy the dash of every car I've ever owned and I don't want the shine. For the gauges and radio bezel I use furniture polish. The reason, when I bought the car I was cleaning those areas with glass cleaner. After about the third time I noticed something flaking off the radio. I found out that the clear plastic surfaces have some sort of scratch resistant coating on them and after looking in the owners manual it says in a small note, not to use anything but a damp cloth to clean the clear plastic on the dash. Once that coating is gone the radio looks terrible and looking on the net you can find articles about replacing that bezel with glass which involved too much effort for me. So after a few coats of Pledge it looks as good as new.

Thanks TJ. What about the armor all gel as opposed to the spray?
I also was given a bottle of Porsche convertible top protection spray by my father who owns a 2009 Boxster S with cloth top (like my vert). This may be a dumb question but would rather ask a dumb question than find out the hard way but are the vert top protectors universal?

I don't know about the wipes. I never used them. There are much better products out there as mentioned by AP above. I have only used a damp cloth on it in the past but I picked up some Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer cleaner at Canadian Tire yesterday and I'm going to give that a try the next time I give Alexis a bath. I'm hoping it doesn't add a shine to the dash as I don't want the reflection on the windshield. I used to use Armor All religiously but found that it attracted dust from the greasy residue left behind, created the reflection and seemed, to me anyway, to weaken the dash over time. As far as your convertible question. I copied the following from the owners manual:

CONVERTIBLE TOP AND PADDED MOLDING
For vinyl tops, wash with Motorcraft Detail Wash (ZC-3-A), which is
available from your authorized dealer.
For cloth tops wash with a high quality convertible top
cleaner/protectant.

• Do not use stiff bristle brushes or abrasive materials or cleaners.
• Hot waxes applied by commercial car washes can affect the
cleanability of vinyl material.
• Using high water pressure or wand-type car washes against the
convertible top and windows may cause water leaks and possible seal
damage.

I would say that your Porsche Top cleaner would fall into that category. There is a lot of information in the owners manual. If you don't have one follow the link below. Your manual is there as a PDF file. People ask me why I call the car Alexis and my answer is because she's "Sophisticated and Dirty" at the same time!!! Good luck.

Am so glad to hear that, my girlfriend though I was retarded when I called mine Amber. Mostly because the car can purr like a kitten or roar like a raging bitch! Lol. (long story on the name but definitely fits in my case)

Lovin the car names guys. I call mine Ace cuz it can run like the wind (Megaman fans). I agree with what I've been reading about the Armor All stuff.

My problem is I have this stain on this plastic cover that goes over my cup holders. I think it's coffee or some kind of sticky residue. Any ideas on how to clean that up?

This is what I use

I use "Eat or drink in my car and I'll break your arm off and beat you with it". Works great. :tup
