3M-39009 uses fillers and resins to temporarily visually eliminate swirls. Basically they will magically reappear within a couple of weeks. Try this test,

1. Use the product in an area where you can visually see swirls.
2. If the swirls appear they have disappeared, rub a 50/50 mix of denatured rubbing alcohol and Distilled water in the same area.

Viola! The swirls are back!

Many products such and Meguiars #9, 3M-39009 are not permanent solutions. Both these manufactures do make other swirl removers that WILL eliminate swirls permanently but they must be machine applied. Permanently removing swirls by hand is nearly impossible. Also, some products which use fillers in them to remove swirls will haze if topped with a carnauba or Sealant. This will be especially obvious on a black car.

swirls

I do not know why people insist on a circular motion when polishing and waxing their cars. If I had swirls- as many times as I polish/wax per week ( 5 )this 3M seems like it might work. Before falling of a loading dock I could wash, dry, polish, do the rims and tires and it took 1 1/4 hrs to finish by hand.
