Painting Rocker Panels

We're planning to paint the rocker panels, which are textured. I've seen some that are painted and don't appear to be side skirts, just the original panels painted. Just wondering if most are painted with texture or if the texture is removed for a smooth finish. Can anyone tell me what they've seen or done?

They can be sanded smooth and painted. I don't think the paint would stick with the texture on there.

I say paint them once smoothed

is it raw plastic? if so i would not sand them,, use a 3M scotchbrite pad some water and ajax or some other course cleaner, wash the part with alcohol the using the 3m pad wet it and put some ajax or comet whatever right onto the pad and rub the piece down with firm pressure making sure it is all scuffed. then wash the part VERY good with water
i usually continue to wash it and scrub more with the 3m pad but no additive.( at work i have a clener specifically for this but ajax and comet work perfect)
once clean dry thoroughly, agai wash with alcohol. get a plastic adhesion promoter and spray it on all the pieces making sure its all covered, then PRIMER not sure you rought he texture is but apply a few good coats to make sure you got enough build to sand it smooth without going through all over. once primed go about your business to paint it.

if they are bare or raw plastic that is how to do it if you use a course paper to try to sand it smooth it will make the plastic go almost fuzzy and you will be priming it more than once to make it smooth! hope that helps oh and you should NEVER paint directly to bare plastic
