So what are your longer range goals with the car re stripes etc

savagetman 06-30-2011 05:47 PM

took off the stripes because i could not stand to look all the pitting and discoloration from tree sap getting on them, bought the car with them that way. AS it sits im going to be looking at trading it off next spring or soon when i find a gt500 i like or find a good deal that i cant pass up:D Im not sure if im going to replace them or not before i sell the car.:?

ChadStang 06-30-2011 11:55 PM

Did you try a clay bar before taking them off?

savagetman 07-01-2011 12:01 AM

yes i did, and i even had a friend that works as a car detailer at a local dealership look at them, we tried everything that they could do at a big dealership for cleaning and restoring and nothing worked.:banghead:

Apocalypse Pony 07-01-2011 06:11 AM

Did you get all the adhesive stripped off as well? Looks like there's still some on the paint in your pics?

savagetman 07-01-2011 12:59 PM

Yes i got all the glue off, thanks to my friend that works at a local dealership. They have a special compound for just such occasions. hole process took two days. Day 1 was taking the stripes off, and the second day was removing any glue left over then washing the car 2 times to make sure there was no glue left anywhere on the car before it was polished.

That sucks

YA i thinking if a car comes with strips from the factory they should be painted on, its not like new cars that are of any decent quality ant expensive, we should at least get something worth the money we are paying for these toys, for example Ford GT40 comes with painted stripes. lol just my opinion

I agree but yours wouldn't have been factory. The factory stripes didn't carry onto the bumpers on the GT. I honestly think that black looks better without stripes anyway, look at Snakebite's car. Clean and mean looking. If you do decide to restripe though look into matte black stripes, it looks great. Subtle and you only notice it when you really look.

savagetman 07-03-2011 11:48 PM

if i restripe it i was thinking of going carbon fiber strips, i saw a 2009 GT500 with them and they looked fantastic on it. Or ford racing blue but as it sits stripes will probable not go back on the car since ill be looking at trading it in the spring of 2012 for a gt500 with it most likely being between the years of 07 to 09, prefer an 09 if i can find a white, or white with blue stripes.

SNAKEBITE 07-04-2011 11:42 AM

go stripeless

Probably best to leave them off if you are going to trade it. Save the stripes for the GT500.

^^^how are your stripes looking/lasting etc?

They still look good. A few swirl marks and stuff just like what you would see on the paint. I have to try a little polish on them I just haven't had a chance yet.

They look a little better after today but there is still some light scuffs on them here and there. From what I've read a polisher and cutting compound can be used and they come out ok but I'm not that adventurous. Being that the stripes are white it is only visible under the right light. I'm fine with it. Might look a little better again when I get the last coat of wax on.

SNAKEBITE 07-08-2011 09:10 AM

More than likely re wax.
