Window Tint Problems

Has anyone been having problems tinting their 05+ Mustangs?

i've had mine done twice already... first time they got scratched up badly when i first put them down...

so i had them redone... added felt and it was fine the first couple times... but now they are scratching again but not as much...

i brought them back again and was told that its a problem with the 05+ models and they keep having problems like i am..

the top of the windows will be scratched up...

anyone have a solution to this? maybe something i can pass on to this shop so they can correct it once and for all?

i had it done through the dealership and they've been good about looking after it.. but its at the point where the shop doesnt want to redo it again cuz the same thing will happen...

any and all help would be greatly appreciated..

I've heard a few 05+ owners complain of this. I think it has to do with the fact the window moves slightly each time you open and close the door.

You just need a tint place that really knows what their doing and uses decent quality tint. There are differences in tint.

well at least im not the only one... thanks for the info...

the dealership offered to have the tint removed and refund me back...

maybe ill look for a place that has more experience with tinting 05+ mustangs and then take that route..

its just frustrating to have a newer car.. nice tinted windows.. then not so nice scratches to follow :)

you cant see'em unless you really look

but now that i know they are there.. its all i see.. lol

Here's what I know about it.

Because the window moves up and down slightly when you open/close the door to seal nicely that area is prone to scratching and or peeling.

The tinter I use says that he can use a much thicker film but that will likely either fix the problem totally or at least take a longer time for the film to have issues in that spot.

Some customers went the thicker route and have had no problems.

Others have asked that he remove that little slice of film from along the top of the window because when the window is up against the black rubber it is very hard to notice and when the window is all the way down you cannot see it.
Only when the window is partially down can it be really noticed so this seems to be a trade off.

What I am going to do is get the thickest film that I can installed and hope for the best.

Hope you get it sorted.

I've had Luminar film on mu 03, and it's taken a lot of abuse over the years and just has the usual wear and tear and seat belt nicks from the girlfriend.

You may want to try that stuff.

hope all goes well :)

well i think I have the tint problem solved now.. :)
talked to the shop and they got in what it called Mole Skin. they are installing the Mole Skin and re-tinting my windows. This should now solve the problem. i have read positive reviews on websites as well about this product. I will let you guys know in 3 days how it turned out.

and Kleen05Boss... I'm sure you only put your windows down like 6 times in 4 yrs :P

The 05's do not have "felt" on the inside of the rubber window seal. You can the item on eBay for about $15.00 with all instructions. It's about a 1/2 hour job to install. It's the rubber that's doing in your tint.
