my speedo started making a "CLICKING" sound when going over 30 mph. recently. Someone told me to lubricate the end of the speedo cable , but he couldn't recommend the correct lubricant? Going into a car parts store a young "kid" hesitantly recommended a "dry graphite" spray lubricant. his waffling made me question his choice, can this be used???????

 

What kind of clicking? is it a constant clicking or is it a single click once over 30?

 

You could use some white lithium grease could do the trick!!
Its great for window rollers too.

sometimes that noise can be attributed to a worn out speedo cable
they can be replaced

 

Mine did that just before it snapped off ('67 coupe). A new one was about $30 and 1/2 and hour on the ramps in my driveway. 2 words: Scott Drake.

Yeah, it's going to blow. You have to take the whole cable off and pull out the square cable and then lube it up with low temp white grease. Then put it all back together. Been there done that and it broke after about 300 miles. Buy a new one.

No, don't use white lithium.

The proper lube for a speedo cable is graphite.

Watch the repro speedo cables. I put one in and it wiped the speedo gear on my TKO.
