Hi guys, I recently got a 1967 Mustang.
The history of this car was a little messed up.

From what I can tell, the car original had an 8 cylinder engine in it.

The old guy I got it from had 2 - V6 200's for this car.

I just recently found out that 1 is for an automatic tranny and the other for a manual

The car currently has an manual 3sp tranny on it.

What I wanted to know, what I am hoping is to put a 302 w/ and automatic tranny in this car.

This 'new' engine/tranny is from an 67-68 Mustang.

Can this be done easily? or is it going to be an insane amount of work?
Is there a guide or manual someone could refer me to.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Its an 1967 mustang coupe.

basically I want to know if the 'new' engine will bolt in, or will I have to do some mods...

 

I imagine you will need the proper k member(or what ever they call it for this year model) for the engine mounting,then you will need the ignition module/box for the V8,radiator,and obviously exhaust,.......and why not keep it mannual,and go with the world calss T-5.Lots of guys do it. Be lots of fun!

 

Yeah, here's the other thing I forgot to mention.

I have 2 - v6 200 engines, 1 is auto, good to go, and the other is manual, but needs to be rebuilt.

 

I have a 64.5 Mustang 260 with generator and power steering with an Eton pump. I am attempting to install origional factory airconditioning. I have mounted the compresor but now the Eton pump cannot be mounted back because the compressor extends to far. I am told that a factory Ford pump with a slanted reservoir may correct the problem or a remote power steering reservoir may also correct the problem. Does anyone know the correct way to fix this problem.

 

I was going to respond to this a while ago. Are you sure the engines are V6's and not the inline 6? In any case you need the front sump oil pan for the V8 of you choice. The 302 should be ok because the original was probably a 289. You need the V8 motor mounts. Trans should mount with no problems.

What is the fifth character in the VIN? That will tell you the original motor in the car. It could be a "C"=289 2V an "A"=289 4V a "K"=289 HiPo or an "S"=390 4V if it was an I6 car it would be a "T"=200 1V or I believe a "U"=170 1V was also available.

If the car was originally a V8 car and never swapped to a six then the proper V8 engine mounts would be there ( hopefully) and a 302 will bolt in with minimal fuss.

BTW the term "K" member is not used on vintage Mustangs as they have no bolt on sub frame just a crossmember to stiffen the chassis that has nothing to do with the engine cradling or suspension like the later cars. Stu

 

You also should make sure the car has the right V8 suspension and brakes.
6 banger cars had 4 bolt pattern while the 8's came with a 5 bolt pattern.
