BBK Valve Covers

Hello All,

I just wanted to share my experience with BBK Chrome Valve covers. Please join in and comment or add anything you can.

I recently had a major oil leak going down the exhaust pipes on both sides, it took awhile to figure out where this leak was coming from but a extended mirror and flash light showed the covers were leaking from front to back.
I really like the look of the BBK's but I figured they were junk so I started looking for a stock set. Well $600.00 from Ford turned me off pretty quick, I found a excellent looking set from Trick Flow but no supplier in Canada seemed interested in ordering them so here is what I found.
After taking the covers off, ordering new gaskets and beginning the install everything seem to go ok. But after the first start up the oil flowing free down the heads to the exhaust again. Guess what the gaskets slipped out. So I took everything apart again and if anyone here has done this you know its quite a job, remove the fuel rail air lines ect + I have a Vortech installed so it makes it harder. So here is the fix, you have to use a rubber gasket remover and grind off all of the chrome on the BBK flange as BBK was so brilliant and didn't include this in their instructions, then throw away the BBK gaskets as they are junk. RTV is the answer here. Don't get excited with it but do spare either. Bolt it down by hand leave them overnight and snug everything up in the AM. Not one leak as of yet.
I am sure some of the experienced people here have dealt with this and they may be able to add something but just wanted to help a novice like myself deal with this problem.

Heard they suck for sealing!I found a set of stockers at the wreckers for 40 bucks a set.I needed the driverside oil fill covers for the Bullitt intake swap.
