'86-'92 Intake Manifold Swap

Hey!

One of my friend have a EFI 5.0 'GT, and we noticed his intake manifold doesn't look quite like mine. Is there a difference between both stock part? Like if he installed my '92 intake on his '86, would it make a difference or even fit?

Yes it is a direct swap. The only real difference is th holes are a little bigger, and the throttle body is 60mm (I think) Vs 55mm on '87-'93 intakes.

From: Winger, but good luck finding that
I don't know if it would be worth the effort.......
I mean if you were tearing apart the top already, then sure, go for it, you can find those intakes for like $20.
I don't think I'd bother with no other mods though....

Ok thanks. So the stock throttle body of a '87 would help with the intake?

no, because the opening on the '86 intake is smaller.

I think the 86 & 87-93 throttle bodies are the same, it's just the upper intake
off the 87-93 flows a little better, but if you want any real improvement just
buy an aftermarket upper & lower, not really any point changing the stock 86 one for a 87-93 you won't even notice a power difference.

Nope, the 86 throttle body was definitely smaller too. But the real choke point is the crappy E6SE heads. However, as mentioned, if you're taking the top end off for any reason, you may as well throw on the 87-93 stuff, dirt cheap to free these days.

cheers

The stock E6 upper intake manifold, throttle body and EGR are the exact same as the Non-H.O. engines. The 87-93 H.O. upper intake, throttle body and EGR spacer are slightly larger, and will yield a noticeable improvement in power. If it's a very cheap or near free upgrade, go for it. It literally takes 15 minutes to swap the upper intake and throttle body/EGR assembly over. The lower intake is the same. And yes, the E6 heads are the real choke point. If you're going to do a top end swap, you're going to want to find an opened up lower intake or at least get yourself an internal EGR Explorer intake to go with the E7 heads.
