convertible top care

I want to order some cleaner/protectant for my 2001 Cobra convertible ragtop but I seem to be finding a LOT of conflicting information about the material used. My understanding at this point is the GT used a vinyl top and the Cobra a fabric top? Is that correct? Is there a way to test?

You will definatly know if it is vinyl or cloth. The feel of the two materials are completely different. Now I know as an option you could get them on the GT's but not many had it.

Yes, I'm sure I could tell the difference if I had a GT to compare it to. Might have to wander through some parking lots "stroking" 'vert tops

Does anyone KNOW if 2001 Cobras were fabric tops?

The easiest way to tell is to look across the top at an angle if you can see a slight gloss to the material then it's vinyl... no slight gloss it's fabric.

My understanding is that the fabric doesn't sand up to our weather as well as the vinyl does, so the most popular/common is the vinyl.

Thanks Spuddy, I believe it is vinyl...

Do you wash the top every time you wash the car? Or do you just run a damp cloth or sponge over it to remove the dust? I've heard conflicting opinions on the care of convertible tops.

Hey,

My buddy has a 99 'vert with a white vynal top. Used Simple Green Spray and a scrub brush which got it really clean. Then made sure I washed it right off. It haden't been cleaned in years and was white again
