Street Sweeper V6: 700 Horsepower on Tap

You can always tell a fast car on the dyno because the time from burying the loud pedal to the end of the run is very short. So it is in the video below, which shows a Torch Red convertible pounding out 611 HP and 571 ft-lb of torque.

"That's nice," you say, "but I've seen a couple like that before." Granted, 600 HP is up there, but achievable with a pretty hot GT. OK, so this car is not a GT. Have we got your attention now?

Meet J's twin turbo V6 Mustang. The built 4.3-liter motor uses a standard 3.8-V6 Mustang block and the 4.2-liter crankshaft from an F-150. Add in a set of forged pistons and rods and you have a strong base to build from.

A twin turbo kit from TMA Turbo has added a pair of Garret T3/T4 57 trim turbochargers, Tial 50mm blow-off valve and dual 38mm wastegates, stainless steel exhaust headers and a 3-inch outlet intercooler. The 4R70W automatic transmission has been beefed up by BCAutomotive. The addition of a GReddy boost controller and true dual exhaust setup complete this six-pack's configuration.

Several runs are made in the video, the last one being at 16 psi boost. If you accept 15% driveline loss for this configuration, that means the flywheel output is right around 700 HP.

Once this project gets loose on the streets, there are going to be some surprises dealt out. Talk about a big-old can of whoop-*** on wheels!

A friend has a Dodge neon 4cyl that he had set up on the dyno last summer and is making 402Hp to the front wheels with regular pump gas and 26lbs of boost.. I would not want to see the result if it comes apart...
