New Ford Transit Van

With the success of the Transit Connect Ford is looking at a replacement for the Econoline. They talked about this at a dealer meeting I was at and fuel economy is something they are hoping to increase drastically.

A Ford "sprinter". I hope it proves to be more durable than the Mercedes/Dodge/Freightliner sisters.

Hopefully they have success in that market.

Ford currently dominates that market so I'm sure they will thoroughly test before they make the switch. I wouldn't be surprised if they run both this and the Econoline for a bit to ease into things.

Ford actually had that style going on the Transits in Europe in the mid 1990s ... before the Mercedes version was introduced I believe.

cheers

Yep the current Transit Connect has been available in Europe for quite some time. They are built in Turkey and shipped here.

Transit Connect is the small FWD version with a Focus drivetrain ... current iteration has been around since roughly 2002. We use one at our dealership for a parts runner, good little vehicle.

The full size Transit is RWD, and compares in size and capabilities to the Sprinter. My point was that Ford had that "Sprinter" body style on the full size Transit before Mercedes did.

cheers
Ed
