Hi friends at CMOC, I am a new buyer hoping to join the Mustang world. I am close to buying a used 2013 Mustang GT convertible with 70k on it. Is there anything I should be looking out for engine wise or anything at all before I pull the trigger.

There is 2 years of powertrain warranty left but bumper to bumper is expired. Have owners experienced any issues that seem to be common?

Welcome, nothing specific for you, other than maybe check the rear wheel wells for any shredded rubber and a lingering stench of burnouts. lol Do the usual checks, see if you can get the maintenance history on the vehicle, thats one of the best indicators. Run the top up and down, see how it sits when retracted, smooth operation etc. January is a tough time to buy a convertible, from the mileage I'm guessing it was winter driven, not a deal breaker, but have a look when its up on the hoist and see if it's been sprayed with anything like Krown, or oiled. Probably going to need new tires soon, if your at 70k, so consider that cost as well.

 

Thank you Apocalypse Pony for your insights! I figured January should be a good month to buy a convertible since there isnt much demand for that in winter plus I was told it was a slow sales month after xmas so might be able to squeeze some discounts.

They are giving me brand new tires and brakes too on delivery. I tested the top it goes up and down smooth. I was told the v8 coyote engine is very good and durable so no to worry hope that is the case.

I saw the maintenance records and it was serviced same place, no accidents. they had to replace the door panel electrical stuff from the records but it was complete.

Do many people drive their convertible (top up of course) in the winter?

Welcome to cmoc! I'm willing to bet it was only driven down south in the winter. You don't see to many verts out in the winter.

 

Sounds like you did your homework, tires and brakes as part of the deal isn't too shabby either. In the grand scheme of things, I personally don't think 70k is much at all for mileage. The engine is only as good as how it's been maintained, how else do you think you hear of some going 500k, bonus if you got the service records.

 

The only thing I can say is that the car will have an open recall for the drivers airbag inflator ring. There is no current promise date for parts on the recall and it affects all 05-14 Mustangs.

 

Welcome to CMOC. Another possibility for the higher mileage is that the car could have been a daily rental or off lease. It could have also been owned by someone who commuted to work from outside the city. Ask them for a CarFax or CarProof that will give you some idea of where this Mustang has been.

 

Never thought of that, rental car, yikes, we all know how rental cars get treated by some guys. Definitely look for shredded rubber. lol

 

Guys above gave good advice, ask them to show you the history, they can run
it on a Ford system with VIN and factory work will show.
Spend a couple of bucks, get it on a host have a good look.

Ask about any mods to the car, cold air intake, any tunes, lower springs, exhaust, etc... Remember, any changes to the factor tune can affect warranty coverage???
