82 2.3Ltr turbo
Just found out that my car was built in 81 , which makes it 1 of 1 acording to NATIONAL LATE MODEL HEAD JUDGE(STEWART JONES) and ford built a total of 9 that are registered for 1982. these cars are bright red paint code 27 with a whit vinyle top and red interior. motor is a 2.3ltr turbo and a 5 speed transmision. looks like a covertable a first look. looking for other owners.

Wow, that's a rare one!!!!!! Keep it.
Supposedly there were no turbo Ford 2.3Ls produced in 82, but, they seem to keep popping up in Canada.. I had one, sort of, mine was 1982 Capri RS Turbo, that I traded a KX 500 for. I was 17... It had 132000 KMs on it when I got it but the front frame rails were shot.. back then I never knew that stuff could be fixed so I tweaked it a bit a nd beat on it till I pulled the engine to sell and junked it :( You can have 'some' fun with the carbed turbos but are limited cause they are 9:1 compression and the pistons aren't real strong.. I re-routed 2 vac lines on mine and it was making about 13 PSI [stock is 5-6 and the rare 81 McClaren Mustangs made 175 HP @ 11 PSI carbed turbo], I had the base timing retarded 2* to help out with increased boost, ran some decent fuel [Sunoco 94 minimum], no exhaust after the stock downpipe, and aftermarket aircleaner.. car had the usual gutting and front sway bar gone etc and was pretty quick.. I lost by a fender to a bone stock fully loaded 87 Cobra GT 5 speed... Beat a 1980 TA with a 455 olds, TH 400, 3.08 gears, beat once and lost once to a 80 Capri RS ex turbo turned 5.0 4bbl 4 spd, w/ the stock 3.45 gears. I'm rambling now.. but I miss that car I wish I nevwer would have junked it.. it was such a unique, neat car. Doing what it did best

okay seriously...which vac lines did you play with??????
I currently have an 82 capri RS turbo!!!! shes red.. with 138000ish on the clock.. alhtough running 13 wihtout an intercooler is quite risky... |
Truth be told I can't remember exactly how I did it. If I remeber right there are two vac lines going to the wastegate diaphram, and what I did was run both of them to the intake vacuum, instead of how they were run... I know that's vague but this was 1991 and i'd have to look at the car again to get it back...
I DO remember mine... had an adjustable wastegate rod from the factory, which I never touched cause I putzed with them vac hoses. BUT you could always just get a good boost guage and play with the wastegate rod. BTW would you seriously be interested in selling the Capri RS Turbo??? I'd pay a fair price for it. :) |
