Starter trouble
 

I am not very mechanical so any help will go a long way. The starter on my 1992 LX 2.3 keeps turning after the engine starts. I have a new starter installed less than a month ago and was having the same problem with the old one just before it died completely. I have replaced the solenoid as well. I have been told it might be a problem with the ignition switch not releasing soon enough. Would like some advise before I take it back to the garage so I do not sound like a complete idiot LOL.

Really it can 1 of 2 things, your starter wires are crossing some were, or your solenoid is still sticking but you are on the right track.

Was thinking the solenoid aswell!

Take a wire from your battery, connect it to a temporary interupt switch (push button) connect the other to the trigger on your starter. Turn your key to on, and push the button. If you let go and it fires up, but does not continue to engage, then it is the ignition. If there is no difference, then it is the solenoid.

the ignition switch is prone to problems on those years, i've changed at least 10 on various fords with the same style switch, and there very easy to change, all you need is a "tamper proof" torx bit, it's a torx bit with a hole in the end, you can buy them in sets at napa or most places that sell tools. the easiest way to test this is to get a test light and hook it to ground, remove the push on wire (red blue stripe) at the solinoid and place the probe in the end, between the boot and the metal to keep it in there, place the test light where you can see it and turn the key to "start" see if the light stays on after you release the key.
