1997 Ford Mustang Gt rim and tire question

Hey guys, I have a 1997 mustang gt with stock pony rims that are 16 inch with stock tires, I have a chance to buy a set of 2010 18 inch mustang gt rims, bolt pattern is the same but my question is will the tires fit, the tires are 235/55/18. any help would be great! Thanks

They will fit, the stock 2010 tires where 235/50/18, so they will be a little taller but will work. Edit, didn't notice your car is a 97, so not 100% sure, I know the tires will fit on the rim but not if they will fit in your wheel wells.

Thank you! Im hoping for a bit more info, ive done some research but the rims and tires are pretty pricey and dont want to buy them and the tires rub, I can just buy the rims and get 240/45/18 inch tires which would be stock tire size for my 97, but im trying to eliminate some gap between my tire and wheel well without lowering and losing the comfortable ride.

this will help you figure out the overall dimensions.

Stock ride height they will fit for sure, but with the offset of the rim from that generation will have the rims sitting in quite a bit.

Looking at a set of oem mustang wheels, 245/45/19 tires, anyone ever had this size tire on a 97 Gt? Thanks in advance for any help!

Wheels from the 05-14 will bolt on, but the offset is too positive ... typically people are using 1/2" to 1-1/4" spacers with them on a 94-04. Easiest is probably bolt-on 1" spacers so that longer studs aren't required as would be with a thinner slip-on spacer.

Tires are also going to be too tall for the 97. The SN95 used 245/45R17 as original, so the 245/45R19 are 2" larger overall diameter. You would have to look at something like 255/35R19 to get close on the diameter to fit your car, and that width would be a squeeze on those wheels, which are only 8.5" wide.

Unless they are a really good price, my advice would be to pass on them.

cheers
Ed

Thanks for the help guys, so fast Ed, what will happen if I use 05-14 rims without spacers? I did choose a buy a set of rims, they are from a 2010 and they are 18 inch. American muscle calls for 245/40/18 on my 1997 mustang gt, I want to fill up my wheel without lowering it, personally I feel I could go with a bit bigger tire, width is fine, I just want more height than a 40 but do not want any huge issues from doing it, ive posted some pictures of my car and thd rims I just bought, *Note* tires on the rims in the picture are not going on my car, im buying a brand new set.
