Wanted TPMS's for my 09
Looking for 4 TPMS's for my 09. I had bought some from American Muscle a couple of years ago and finally had them installed by the Ford dealer here. They do not work. I can reset them and the light keeps coming back on. The dealer could not get them to reset either. I contacted American Muscle with no response from them. My original tires and rims were sold long ago, I never thought to take the sensors out because I had the new ones from American Muscle, that was a waste of good money. :banghead:

That sucks, I've had the same sort of experience with buying something and it turns out to be not exactly as described.
Have you priced the OEM units? Last time I got a new set of winter wheels the Ford TPMS sensors weren't terribly priced. Doesn't help with the fact American Muscle sold you some duds, but at least the Ford units will work, and if theres a problem you can go right to the guy that sold them to you. |
That sucks that they don't work. It sucks even more that they won't get back to you. I think the sensors changed in 2010, so maybe you've got the 10-14 sensors. If that was the case at least you could sell them to recoup some of the cost of a new set.

I still have the ones from the 2014 rims that are on the car now. I think AP is right. Just bite the bullet and go directly to Ford.
And like ChadStang says sell the other two sets to recoup some of my loss. |
What brand are the ones you got from AM?

Some sensors have to be activated and programmed with a code before they are installed. This is the way mine had to be done. After that, you go through the process with the tire tool and the honk for each wheel. Without first giving mine a code # (or copying my code from the original sensors) they wouldn't work. Mine were Green in colour and made by System 31 (EZ Sensor). I believe Ford uses 315Mhz sensors, but AM would know that.

$50 US for shipping, I love how US companies screw us over for shipping.

I don't know if the ones from AM work the same as the ones I got or not, but I would think that they would have everything set before shipping them out. With mine, there was a programmer that either reads and stores the stock sensor codes (if available), or generates a new code. The new sensors are then plugged into the programmer and loaded with the codes, and then installed and married to the computer.
I posted above that mine were EZ Sensors...that was wrong...mine were Smart Sensors. There are so many brands and styles out there, it isn't funny. Some (I'm told) will automatically be picked up by the car's computer (after you trigger them with the tool you have) after 40-50 Kms of driving. You would think AM would use something like this for ease of use and less customer concerns. I see one of the reviews on AM's site says that the sensors someone got were OEM Ford parts...you say the ones you got are different than the ones they have now. The only thing I can suggest is to find out which brand you have (31 Inc, Schrader, OEM Ford, etc), and go to that company's website for more info. When you trigger/set the sensors to the car, do you get 1 or 2 quick beeps from the car? IIRC, 1 beep means the car recognizes the sensor, and 2 means no. If you get 1 beep, maybe you just need to put some miles on the car before the light goes out... |
I have no idea what brand they are. When I took them to the dealer they where in boxes. When I picked the car back up, all I got back was the reset button. I had to ask for the tpms's from my rims to get them back. I just tried to reset them again and I get one beep when I trigger them. What AM says to do is, turn key on thre times and leave on. push brake peddle once.Turn key off and turn key on three more times. horn beeps once. train tires LF beep, RF beep, RR beep, LR beep dash says training complete. Start car and the light comes right back on. I even let all the air out of the tires and let sit 10 minutes before inflating them to 32 lbs. Did the retrain and still getting the light.
|
It sounds like the car is recognizing the sensor (1 beep), so the light should go out...have you tried taking it for a drive? I've been told sometimes it takes 40kms or so and the light will go out. It might be worth a try if you haven't yet.

Funny, haven't heard a peep from you in a while.

I guess I have been a little slack on the motivational posts lately. Been busy with my other hobby of buying, selling and hoarding. I did come across a very rare prototype phone that could end being a one of a kind. I'll post that in the other thread I started awhile ago.
Just because it's slow around here. I still haven't got the TPMS issues fixed yet. Beginning to piss me off. Other then that the Mustang is working good. With these hot days lately. I drive with the top down and the air on. I have the vents pointed toward me on high. So see I'm still here, Just whoring around on other forums looking for information on my oddball finds. :D |
Thanks joez ryde

Big Thanks goes out to joez ryde for sending me his TPMS's for my car. He sent them out to me even before I paid him for them. Goes to show you that there are still trusting people out there.
Thanks again Joe. :tup |
Thats a nice change of pace, good to hear, and good on Joe. Most times its the other way around.

It's fixed! I had booked the Mustang in at the Ford dealer here for this Friday to have the TPMS's put in that I got from joez ryde along with the new bands that I got from AM. As most of you know I had bought the valve stem replacements from AM and had them put into the 2014 rims I had bought by the Ford dealer. Ford could not get them to match the car. So back to the band style and hope that everything works out. My nextdoor neighbor Jim was over on Monday and I was telling him about my issues with the TPMS's. He works for Canadian Tire as a automotive service writer. He said that there is a young hot shot rookie working in the shop and that he could possibly fix it for me. I had my doubts. Jim called over and talked to him about my problem. The kid (maybe 20 years old) told Jim to have me bring it over with used TPMS's. Jim said to me stop by Tims and pick him up a coffee, so I did. I get there with coffee in hand and this young lad meets me with a smile. Takes my keys pulls it in and gets to work. He takes the old sensors to the counter and gets this handheld device and starts to read the sensors. He then goes to the Mustang puts the handheld up the tire valve stem and it goes beep, he did all four. when he finished that, he plugged the handheld into the cars computer. He turned the key on and off a few times hit the brake petal and the cars lights started to flash and the horn went off a few times. He turned the key back off, unplugged the handheld. Started the car and said he would be right back. He took the car for a drive came back and handed me the keys and said it's fixed. I asked how much and he said no charge. The AM valve stems took the programing. Why couldn't the Ford dealer have done that? I called back to the Ford Dealer and cancelled my appointment and told them that it was fixed. I gave Jim $20.00 to give to the young lad for his time. I'm a happy camper again, no more dash warning lights. Now I have the spare TPMS's and new bands on the shelf in the garage, just in case.

That's excellent!
Good to hear! There is hope in the future for talented lads like him |
Great news AN, damn kids and their computer thingies. lol
|
Great to hear you got it fixed. Aftermarket sensors can be a real bugger to program, luckily they had the right tool.
