98 GT - Lurching when off throttle
Hi,
I've got an interesting problem with my '98 GT - when I back off the throttle in 1st/2nd/3rd gear (mostly), and the RPM is below ~ 2500, the car lurches like crazy. If I put in a bit of throttle it stops. If I downshift and the revs are > 2500, it doesn't have that issue. As soon as it comes down through ~ 2500, the lurching starts. Accelerating through the gears also doesn't show any hesitation on the way up.. I can also drive around town in 4th gear around 1200-1500 rpm and it doesn't do it. Any ideas?
(Car is supercharged/intercooled. Fuel pressure is about 37 psi. No other drive-ability issues. Had it on the dyno a few weeks ago and it ran really well in the high revs and put down some good power. Just had new O2 sensors installed as they were giving a really weak reading during the test.)
thanks,
-Darren

I made a makeshift gasket out of a beer can to block off the EGR valve (on intake side). Reduced problem by about 80% so I replaced the EGR. It still lurches a bit, but it is driveable and fun again.

Do think you I could just replace my egr ? I had an idle problem a few years back so I just went to the scrap yard and picked one up for $10 maybe I should try and hunt down another one.

EGR's are cheap - I bought a "Made in the USA" model for I think $99 and it takes 5 minutes to swap. I might replace the idle air controller too and that's around the same price and complexity to do.
