Engine hp/tq question

What part of the engine/build makes torque? Kind of vague but I am not a tech in the know

The reason I ask is my 90GT had 225hp/300tq and my 05 had 300hp/320tq. Now the newest V8's have what 412hp/390tq. The old 5.0 went from 75 more tq than hp to now the 5.0 having 22hp more than tq. What is the better, more tq than hp or visa versa.

Torque comes from America, and high rev-ing HP comes from Japan...
If you want some torque, head to detroit Michigan... that stuff is all over the place up there!

But on a serious note. I found this explaination:

Cheers

It really boils down to how efficient the engine is. Newer technology makes more horsepower and torque.

I was always told torque gets you off the line and horsepower gets you across the finish line.

That's it in a nutshell.
