96-98 4v Internals
My boss was asking me about this on Friday and I didn't really know the answer... What does the (specifically) 97 Cobra 4v engine have for internals? Pistons, Rods, crank, etc.
Thanks |
what do you mean? who makes them?
i have a SVT ford training video that tells all. ill watch it tonight and get back to you if nobody else does by then :tup |
Materialwise I mean

Well, I know the pistons are hyperutectic, and the crank is forged, not sure about the rods, but I'd guess they're forged also.

OK just watched it...wasnt as detailed as what i thought it was, but i got a tad bit of info:
built at the romeo plant Crankshaft-steel induction hardened forged and fully counter weighted cylinder block- aluminum alloy with iron cylinder liners bearing cap- nodular iron exhaust manifold-high silicon molybdenum iron it never said anything about pistons  |
Thanks for the info. :tup

Yep, just need to confirm the pistons.

I'm 95% sure they're hyperutectic. I'd like to know what the rods are made of now, if they're not forged, why not?
Edit: According to Modified Mustangs, 4.6s have hyperutectic pistons and powdered rods, the only exception is the '03/04 Cobra, which has forged pistons due to the boost. |
