There is a young fellow in Windsor with a new 05 gt and boy when he lifts the hood is there a sight to behold. A Procharger. He had it dyno-ed at 486 hp and that is at 9 pounds of boost. He went to Detroit and paid 6000 Cdn and installed it himself. The stock clutch is already slipping so he is going to install a beefed up clutch? When he left Rona thursday night holy boner.

Sounds like a very cool ride HOWEVER I still don't understand why folks are clearly boosting beyond what the bottom ends gonna stand up to.............makes no sense to me.

I think that's the red one? He works at the casino.. he took down the fast turbo Honda (11s) about a month ago. Seems like a pretty quick one.

Nope it's a black one and he's going to spend 3700 for a new bottom end which might cover that concern. He owns a music store on another note. :laughhard

Ah yeah I think that's the one. I was probably thinking red because I had just looked at your picture.

Asked my friend, he said it was black and I remember it had a procharger. But it had a Casino Windsor Dealer parking pass hanging from the rearview mirror... doubt there's two Procharged black 05s around... maybe he owns and deals.

People are boosting way beyond what the motor can take and what the fuel system can support.

That fuel system is maxed around 420rwhp.

People will learn the hard way

He went over to Detroit and had everything done ie bottom end beefed up drive shaft. As you would say at a Harveys the works please. :laughhard

This is the second time I am writing a reply to this thread.
It seems that yesterdays reply mysteriously vanished.
I only questioned where people are getting their data as to what the stock motor is capable of supporting.

Where are you getting your data that the motor will not be able to support 9.0 psi. of boost on the stock internals?

The 4.6L 3V motor is not built with the same components as the 2V motor.

The problem with the 2V motor was that the pistons would break at the ring lands (Caused by severe detonation). We know that the pistons are not the same part as the previous ones.

There is no doubt that the best way to go is with a forged crank, pistons, and connecting rods.

There are a lot of people putting a lot of time and money trying to push the boundaries of the 4.6L 3V motor to see what it is actually capable of.

We all know that detonation is the leading cause of catastrophic failure when power adders are used.

First of all the only proper way to tune is on a dyno where air/fuel ratios can be closely monitored with the use of a wideband O2 sensor and adjusted accordingly.

I was at the Fun Ford Weekend in Epping N.H. last week and I was speaking with Jim Jr. of JDM Engineering of Freehold N.J.
JDM Engineering is one of the best known Ford shops on the east coast.
They have an in house chassis dyno and have Lightning pickups running in the 10's
They are regularly featured in Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine.
They had on hand a 05 GT with a Saleen supercharger running 11.6X. The supercharger was modified (pulley reduction, Lightning MAF) to put out 9.0 psi. of boost. The motor had stock internals.


When I spoke with Jim Jr. as to what it would cost I was told it would be between $5500-$6000 US Dollars to balance and blueprint with a forged crankshaft rods and pistons. This is partly due to the aluminium block which must be bored .020 over when replacing the pistons.

We were discussing weather the motor was able to handle the boost and I was told that he believes it shouldn't have a problem.

He also told me that that the next step is to replace the fuel pump with the 03-04 Cobra pumps because the stock pumps are inadequate.

Jim Jr. said that they would keep pushing the boundaries of the motor till they broke it as they would build up a motor with forged internals over the winter.

Also In this months Road & Track magazine Vortech is running an 05 with stock internals at 16 psi. The car has completed 150 pulls on the dyno so far and it is putting out 575hp. Here's the link to the article.

There have been a few very well respected shops, such as Alternative Auto, that have taken apart 3V motor's and are claiming the rods are the weak link in the motor, very similar to those in a Mach 1.

Detonation is what causes piston and ringland damage (and a lean condition), but rod damage is from boost...plain and simple. To use a vehicle that has been around for a bit, know not to take boost - the Mach 1. Take 30 Mach 1's, all with the same blower kit, same fuel system and same tune....15 would be alive and 15 would not be. Some vehicles last, some do not last and it all depends on driver style, gas, and luck.

There is NO WAY I would ever believe any figure or word from a magazine....150 dyno pulls on race fuel, never seeing the street and who knows what boost...sure that will keep the motor in 1 piece.

I am sure the motors can take over 9psi, with an easy driver, not being beat on all the time and the right fuel system. It is proven that the stock fuel system is not good enough for the 8psi or so these kits come with from supercharger companies.

9psi is a "safe" boost level for the average 05 owner.
