5.0 build

I dont see any any responses to gt 40 sallys engine build questions....I also have a 5.0 in a 89 coupe completely stock, the engine has around 180K and uses a bit of oil and power dosnt seem to be there like it use to. So I am also looking to rebuild and improve the power keeping reliability and driveability as a goal as well as power. My car is driven only for pleasure with roughly 10,000k a year at the most. I was thinking the afr 165 or 185 heads and still contemplating the rest. I need some ideas...and combos that work....
Thanks

A buddy of mine built himself a budget 5.0.What he did was get a new short block from Ford, pulled the cam out,and swapped in an E303 cam, then added edelbrock heads, and intake,1.6 rockers, pulleys, full MAC exhaust from front to back,MAC cai,and fine tuned it,and runs low 12's at 109/110 mph. Can't remember what his dyno numbers were, but i do remember they were very strong for N/A.
There is lots of info in back issues of any stang 'zines like 5.0,or Muscle Mustangs,,and also tones on the net,you just need to dig into the right sites where guys live, and breath builds, and numbers with their stangs.

Pretty wide open question though, without knowing how much cash you want to spend. Don't think I have any ideas for you though, but just an observation as to why there were no responses.

Im looking to spend between 5-7, with the heads taking up about 1600 of that.

You are usually pretty safe with either afr165's or with a set of trick flow heads. I have a trick flow stage 1 cam and like it a lot. Most of the other parts are fairly interchangeable with one producing about the same hp as the other

7k? Budget build with a vortech or DIY turbo kit perhaps.

Other than that, heads cam and intake can eat up a ton of that cash when you consider rockers, gaskets and if the engine is apart, why not do the pistons, rod and crank?

buy the for crate motor 306, At a price of arround 4000 msrp you will get a 350 horse long block and have a limited warranty with it. That leaves you plenty of cash to add on boltons and stay well within your budget
