Aluminum Heads

Anyone know of an aftermarket aluminum head that will work with the 86's flat top pistons?

Schlodes 01-02-2005 08:47 AM

I'm not 100% but I think one of the Trickflows will due to the way the combustion chamber in them is... I think the Twisted Wedge..??

Stock cam lift only though I think.. [I could be wrong - might be able to do 1.7 RRs.]

Edelbrocks with the 1.90 intake valve or AFR 165's would be the best bets. You' likely be stuck with stock cam timing though.

Alluminum Heads

They Will All Work If You Have YouR Pistons Flycut And Then Your Eng Will Also Except A Camshaft. The Fly Cut Is Not As Costly As You Probably Think.

No interest in having the piston flycut, or ever swapping a cam. I know AFRs won't work, and 99 per cent sure the Edlebrocks won't work either.....

I did read somewhere, from someone with an 86, that they were running a certain kind of aluminum head that fit with his flat tops....the twisted wedge strikes a bell, but I'm not sure.

If you are going with aluminum heads I would think you would want to upgrade your cam and intake also so you could get the full potential out of the heads.

the intake would be upgraded, the cam wouldn't....simply put, more cam with flat top pistons equals boom.....

Fly Cut

If A Fly Cut Job Is Worth $200 And The Pistons Dont Have To Come Out Is It Really Not Worth Putting A Cam In?

I have to say that you should really think about fly cutting your pistons it will give you way more choice`s when it come to head selection even if you don`t want to change your cam, which you might want to do later in the build of you car.

Twisted Wedge Heads will fit an 86 block with no problems what so ever. You can even go to an aftermarket cam, but then you'll be limited. Also limiting you will be the fact that your car is Speed Density and they get pretty picky on cam choice, as they like alot of vac to run properly. The stock cam is no slouch as some think it is. It's a very good street cam, and 1.72's would help it out.
