No, I read it carefully, and he is doing good port work as well; I'm sure that they are very good heads. I just doubt that they are any better than a Thumper ported E7, and IF you happen to be running flat top pistons (or even if you have the factory fly cut pistons) P/V clearance may become a real issue with either his heads, powerheads, or thumpers with the GT40 valves.

I encourage you to edit your previous statement as I take that insult to my intelligence as a personal attack, which is against CMOC policy.

And for anyone reading this just remember, opinions are like a$$holes, we all have one.

All that guy is really doing is adding bigger valves...which in most cases casue P/V clearance issues.
Now its this:

No, I read it carefully, and he is doing good port work as well; I'm sure that they are very good heads.
Which way is it?

Scones how much have you done yourself with the E7? Do you know how far you can go with them & what actually matters when porting them? or more importantly what’s actually worth all that time & effort? Have you personally checked p to v with a 1.84/1.90/1.94 intake valve? 9 times out of ten its the duration that will get you into a depth problem first before a radial issue with the larger valve - this is real world experience and not 'something I read somewhere'.

As far as my experience I have ported enough of them not to enjoy it anymore! I have a customer that ran 10.40's with a set of E7's and a real basic 306 on nitrous. I have cross sections of them sitting here next to my flowbench which has had at least 30+ pairs of ported E7's (in every configuration) on it not too mention all the different 289, 302, 351, & Gt-40's that have spent time on there as well. From this experience I could tell you exactly what I would do for any particular combination based on what I have learned.

Personally I am not spending $700+ U.S on a set of E7's when I can find a load of used heads for the same or a buck more that will walk all over an E7 and still have room to grow in the future.

I encourage you to edit your previous statement as I take that insult to my intelligence as a personal attack, which is against CMOC policy.
Dude I am not insulting your intelligence I simply don't agree with you.

We can agree on a lot of things actually, on the rest I'm happy agreeing to disagree. As far a research goes I've spent a LOT of time doing that because for years I was going to upgrade my E6s to E7s and then to the best ported E7 I could find (just wanted to squeek them E6s into the 12s first).
I agree the Thumpers would cost a ton of money by the time you get them shipped to Canada (unless you have a buddy just across the border to have them shipped to). However it'll cost a ton of money to get ANY well ported E7, may as well just by a set of GT40 heads for what it costs (unless you want to keep the stock look like me). Furthermore, I never said that Thumpers were better that that guy's heads, in reality at the level that these guy port they're all as close as damn is to swearing, it just comes down to what you want to do with the head, andwhat your plans are for the future.

Agreed.

The E6's aren't as bad as you think they are. Your combo would run far worse with a set of comparable E7's and the original 1986 upper & TB. It’s the upper with the tiny throttle body that killed those engines.

When you go all out on the E6 & E7 its that poor *** E6 chamber design that doesn't help the matter. I had a buddy back in the mid 90's who ran consistent mid 12's with his orginal 86 longblock. It did have a B303 cam and some porting but in essence it ran just as good as most cars with a well-ported E7's back in the day.

If you think I think the E6s are a bad head you had better read my webpage to see what I've done with this car....and then go check out the Scone racing thread in the Power Adder forum.

Pulled verbatim from a few of your own posts:

and don't forget, my car is an 86 with the crappy flowing E6 heads unlike you 87+ guys
with considerably more power than the 86 with bigger throttle body, larger upper intake runners, and much better flowing E7 heads
It will remain uninstalled untill I accomplish a certain goal of mine with the "crappy" 86 heads....that would be a 12.999 with them.
Lastly as per your website:

“HEADS: Heads are the stock, crappy flowing, "E6" castings. Unrebuilt, un modded, un ported, with same mileage as the shortblock.”
This may be where I got the idea you think about E6 heads. Am I wrong for coming to this conclusion? Actually I checked your stuff out awhile back- good luck with your JYT build as I am all for using brains rather than dollars.

IMO all stock 5.0L heads are not worth putting money into unless you can port them yourself. You money would be better directed towards a good set of aftermarket heads.

The E6 heads are limited. The best I have seen with them personally is 12.6, which isn't bad. The kidney shape combustion chamber isn't good for swirl and is small. The exhaust on the E6 is super restrictive and is the biggest limiting factor. If you use a bigger ex valve, make sure you keep the throat of the port around 88-90% of the valve size. Use a radius seat cut, widen and raise the port and open the bowls up. It's quite a bit of work, especially when after all that they wont even come close to out of the box aluminum heads. You may be able to get 200 cfm out of E6 heads with some home porting. Do not port the floors in E6 or E7 heads even when port matching you will kill the tumble and velocity.

Hmm...I guess it does sound like I hate E6 heads in those short little snippets. When I put those quotation marks around "crappy" though, and constently reminding people that I still have those shitty flowing E6 castings, what Im trying to do is open their eyes to the fact that these heads get a bad wrap. They're not as "crappy" as everyone tries telling you.
